It actually is imo as the spirit skills are activated with spirit power making one's level have stronger skills. I do recognise that higher aged soul rings will be stronger than lower aged ones too though. As why else in DD3 would soul masters want to have only black and red rings?
After all, those who truly have such resources are inevitably the Titled Douluo, and a thousand-year Spirit Skill is not very effective at the ninth rank.

Even if Karni's bo staff landed somewhere in between the two, with it being of the sound element, the panda could still handle it. If it were anyone else, their hands wouldn't be the only parts ineffective, their nerves would be affected as well. Even Tang Wulin was affected by this, he was completely stunned for a few seconds. That being said, his Golden Dragon King bloodline hasn't truly awakened yet. Meanwhile, The Jumper had already started developing his own abilities.

I kinda understand why but I believe it doesn't work like that. Your foundation is soul power when it comes to unleashing martial souls, adding rings only gives abilities and improved capabilities on the martial soul. How else could Tang San beat spirit halls team in the competition without added rings and being overloaded with soul power with just his hammer?
A total of 5 seconds was needed for the battle to end. His second martial soul had no soul rings whatsoever; the boost he received in defence would only work against a Soul Scholar.
