"Sir Sejuleu, would you care to join me for a dance?" she proposed, keeping her gaze leveled at Riftan as if in challenge.

Riftan can't even focus on the cup he broke or if he is a mess. Only has eyes for her!
Flinging the mangled remains of the goblet onto the table, he turned his simmering eyes to his wife. Maximilian Calypse surveyed the banquet hall with a mix of nervousness and excitement. Sejuleu Aren stood beside her, gently reassuring her with a kind smile. Riftan was certain he was quite capable of splitting the man in half without a trace of remorse.

unsuspecting victim of war. RIP!
When Riftan sensed his fingers suddenly wet with wine, he realized he had unwittingly crushed the goblet.

At least, that is what he thought until he saw her tentatively accept the hand of the man who came in after her.

Riftan let out a stifled groan. If this was her idea of retaliation, she could not have chosen a better method.

He watched her sedate entrance, his chest tight as though kicked by a warhorse.

Maxi appeared to have come determined to seduce every man in the room. Her thin, pearl-colored silk gown exposed half of her pale breasts, and the flowing skirt did little to conceal the alluring curves of her body.

Riftan's jaw was clenched, a rebuke at his subordinate at the tip of his tongue. But he found he could not tear his eyes away from her.

Haha. She will be later!Riftan be like...
Maxi gulped past her parched throat. Even from the look in his eyes, she could sense his anger had reached perilous levels. Fear made her hair stand on end, but at the same time, the thrill of anticipation coursed through her. It was like riding a wild stallion at full speed — she would either reach her destination or be thrown off and trampled. There was no middle ground.

Remember when Riftan was impressed by Ruth when he had caught him and wyvern? This probably still impressed Riftan! Go Maxi!
Summoning all the strength she could muster, she finally managed to take hold of her wayward magic. They were mere inches from the ground when they began to float. Riftan promptly secured the hook to the wall and nimbly lowered them to safety.

Remember in book 1 when Ruth refused to let Maxi hide behind him against the knights!
As soon as the two senior mages managed to pry Calto off, Ruth ducked behind Maxi.

The Umri tribe!! Interesting.
"You have bested your opponents with exceptional skill. Hence, I bestow upon you the Knight's Sword." The pope's voice was solemn and impassive. "This prized item once belonged to Sir Miguel, one of the original knights. Its sheath is wyvern skin, and its blade is said to have been crafted from adamantine and steel by a master smith of the Umri tribe."

"I doubted my ears when I heard you were at the basilica," she said, grabbing Maxi's hand and hopping in excitement. "Yet, here you here! I can hardly believe it! To think we would meet here… What an amazing coincidence!"

Uly! bringing emotions into it..
"Do you… find me so unreliable, my lady?"
Fantasy · Suji Kim
Remember Riftans dagger instructions? Lol.
Maxi felt her entire body grow rigid as if struck by lightning.
Fantasy · Suji Kim
Definitely! I dont agree with it. I just understand it.
Hebaron furrowed his bushy brows as Riftan went to leave. "Most of our current members joined because of their admiration for you. Just look at Ricaydo. He even refused a position with the royal knights for us. Everyone already sees you as the commander, so when will you stop being so preoccupied with something as inconsequential as pedigree?"
