think of it like an octopus 🐙 the body is the soul, the tips of the tentacles is the vessels and the amount of tentacles is how many vessels he can control. kill a vessel/chop off a tentacle, he can simply replace the vessel/regrow a tentacle. as long as he has a single vessel/tentacle he can live, it doesn't matter whether it's the original. if somehow all vessels are gone, the soul starts degrading and he slowly loses his sense of self till he's either completely gone or reborn or reincarnated as something else like he did here//or, with all the tentacles gone the octopus will no longer be able to hunt and will slowly starve to death unless it manages to grow a new one in time
But he quickly dismissed the thought, deciding it was not his job. Other stronger vessels would take care of it.
