Review for the 1st story Christmas Rollercoaster . Warning : content spoiler! Having written something myself about a Character with Huntington’s disease, I was pleasantly surprised to see a character with ALS in your short story . I don’t think we see diseases like those in stories enough, as I think their lacking is a missing piece of the literary world - also, for the story not to be solely focused on that, or be a tool, but rather be a central drive in the character worked really well. Immediately, I could empathise with Nate despite knowing nothing about what it’s like to be diagnosed with ALS. The only thing I could do is imagine how I would feel if I or someone around me was diagnosed with it, but that arose the feeling of heartbreak easily and quickly. As soon we went back in time, I likened this to The Time Traveller’s Wife meets A Christmas Carol - having no control of going back into the past, but wanting to change the future. I wasn’t expecting it to continue in that kind of way, though. At first, when we learnt that he’d gone by in time (before anything was said further), I worried it would be Nate, not wanting to accept that he would lose use of his hands, trying to find a way to prevent himself from being diagnosed with ALS( which wouldn’t be possible - adding an even sadder aspect to it, but also being predictable). I was so glad you took it in the direction of sweet sorrow, in the words of Shakespear. I almost cried! With this second chance, he had his family at the forefront, but that past him had to sacrifice a lot for it. I suspected this changing of the past may have affected the future, and a sense of dread came from this. However, I was so happy that it hadn’t - that it was as good as a dream, a lesson learnt that family is what truly matters. Money can’t buy you happiness, but a family will always provide it freely. It felt warm and fuzzy, which is all I can ask for really. A heart - warming Christmas tale telling the importance of family love and connection !
