Sorry, rookie fighters are not going act like pros from the get go. So my questioning the logic behind it is sound. That doesn't mean they can't learn, but to figure it out as quickly as Beru did is a bit ridiculous.

Maybe, but if that is the case wouldn't common sense first assume regeneration not an invisible healer? So then cut them to ribbons and be done.
Only then did the ant monster begin to recognise the existence of a Healer. The monster scanned the vicinity to find this annoying human.

Bred or not it cannot be taught all the tricks of the trade die to lack of complete knowledge of skills. In time I would agree that he would figure it out eventually, but it was a bit too quickly I think.
