So he starts off coming in around all of the other vehicles at a diagonal then he whips the big rig around so that he's driving and the back is almost catching up with the front, he then does another diagonal through everyone else so that he can then come back around clearing all of them and then skidding the vehicle sideways while still going faster than everybody else... at least that's how I imagine it

I dont know about the designed to be easily taught part it's more like we just jacked the Roman alphabet and wrote what it sounded closest to but your generally right that you can pretty easily get by with just the 56ish sounds though it's pretty common to see the "sh" and "ch" sounds as separated as unique sounds. the real difficulty comes from when the words aren't english but adopted from some other language. the words with French origin are some of the worst because they have a ton of silent letters for no reason specified in the english rules
