I wonder if any Old Earth antiques have developed life in them from how long they've been maintained... Thinking about it, most will probably be just as annoyingly elitist as their owners from how long they've been revered and taken care of without being used for their purpose.

In a lightnovel, Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu, the MC meets one of the founders of the world's 'adventurer's guild' and he explains that the reason why he made the guild is specifically so that those who take too many risks to climb the ranks die quickly. People can still rank up reasonably though. But even though people are dying left and right, a lot of the guys who join the guild are oblivious to it and keep doing dangerous and risky stuff for riches anyway. Maybe, eventually, enough dumb people die that they learn to become decent people.
If you ask me, it's probably some roundabout way of keeping the population numbers in check, not that I really care about it anyway.
