Having little to no knowledge, you directly declared him as an innocent while the MC became a villain, when it has already been indicated that the mercenaries were inherently selfish as well.

I don't know about my words but I do know that you don't have any argument except for "Why don't you put yourself in his shoes?". That's not a reader's mentality, I'm only judging the protagonist's actions as a bystander pov and giving my conclusion. You don't have to apeal to emotions, it's not a valid argument. I stand by my points, What the protagonist did is completely justified with respect to both circumstances and the environment he is living in. As for your answer, yes I'd be aggrieved. I'm not a saint but if I put you in the MC's shoes, even you'd make the same choice. Don't reply me with some Saint bullshit or "not everyone is like you". Selfishness is an inherent characteristic of a human, you are not spared from it.
