I walk out of the house seeing my brother near my training tree making slashes, causing me to rub the axe I have clipped to a leather strap around my waist like a make shif belt. As I walk toward the edge of the village, I see some of the other children helping with house chores, and I see a little girl with blonde hair helping her mother hang close. That girl is a friend my sister made named Randvi. she notices my stare, smiling and waving yelling. "Good Morning Eric." I return the greeting "good morning" with a smile, making her face go red. I continue on my journey with a bright smile walking to my first magic lesson. As I step to the outside of the village, I see many men cutting wood and a few returning from a morning hunt. knowing I am in the medieval era, I will have to kill, making my stomach churn on top of the butterflies I already have. After walking for some time, I reach the hut I remember from my early days. I walk up to the door and as I am about to nock the seer opens the door saying "You are late" Making me smile awkwardly knowing my mother didn't tell me when only that I was to learn today. Stepping inside the small building, I notice it's bigger on the inside by 20 feet. The seer named floki gets in my face saying, "I don't allow people into my home normally, but since you are blessed by the gods, I will teach you." I wonder to my self 'how does he know I am blessed by the gods.' He looks at me laughing saying "how do I know this? It is simple when you were young. I tested your magic." He gives a big smile continuing, "your mana was quite large, but it will grow with time. my home is build here for one reason. underneath our feet is a small fissure of magic from the yggrdasil, or the world tree, lay lines. Here I will teach of the seer magic. I can see into possible future, use runes to grant power or even use magic itself." turning he snaps his fingers causing the a small fire to light his hearth. He laughs again looking at me only now I realize my large grin. I ask him "can you read my mind?" laughing again he responds " no child I can read your face not everything is magic." First I will teach of the the types of sight, which you should have some ability with." I ask again "how do you know I am touch by the gods?" he answers plainly "You can use mana of course your are blessed, if it is the all father odin you will be gifted with the sight if it is the beloved one Frigg you will have less. Many gods can use magic but few gift it to Midgard." floki walks over to a set of chairs sitting on one and pointing to the other saying "sit I will show you oracle bones." I walk over to the chair opposite him sitting, and he picks up a wooden cup filled with small bones. He begins explaining, "These will show you a possible future, not always true but always possible. I will ask in my mind, what will the sky bring tomorrow?" Rolling the cup he slams it on the table and pulls it up quickly. The bones are all sitting in an unknown shape to me. He begins pointing out patterns that I didn't see at first, like 5 bones in a zigzag line and randomly scattered bones across the table. He then says, "This line shows thor will ride his chariot tomorrow, and the scattered pieces show that it will Freya will water the lands." I reply, "So it will rain, " causing floki to laugh again saying "Yes it will rain." He continued, "we will train this until you can tell me a whole week of weather, then we will move onto runes. Now, pick up the cup and think of the future. Think of where you will be in 20 years." Listening I pick up the bones placing them back into the cup and spinning it in my hand. I think of my future wondering what I will be doing in the future. After a few minutes I follow as he did slaming the cup and pulling it up to show the bones on the table. Floki looks at the bones and frowns saying "tell me what do the bone show you" I look at the bones at first seeing nothing but eventually I see a shape. it looks similar to the rain I ask "does this mean it will rain?" nodding he says "yes but this is not about weather it means tears, it shows a sadness will happen." I frown and he then points to a round bone sitting above a skinny long bone and another skinny bone below them. He says this is normally the sign of death but the crossed bones are not crossed meaning you will be near death but it may not take you." laughing in my head I realize that I should be a progenitor by then. He then points at a skinny bone vertically with a circle bone above it and 5 others across the table. He explains "these are of people watching you but if you look closely you will see the rain makes a crown over this one" pointing to the person in the middle, explaining "the allfather will be watching your journey." I ask in one word "Journey?" Floki responds "life is a journey child but you may very well go on a long journey" pointing at the oracle bones. Smaking his leg he walks toward the door saying "follow me." I do as he says walking out the door with him and down toward where he checked my magic. He holds his hands up asking " do you feel the mana in the air?" Once you feel magic we can really start to learn but today is the end of your training run home. I will see you Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. You will help with blessing the fields and soldiers when you are older for now you will collect items for such occasions. see you Wednesday" he says walking up to his home. With a smile on my face I walk back to my home for my warriors training. My training goes the same as it did previously with my brother beating me leaving a few bruises and my father watching making small changes to how I step and slash. After training I take a quick a bucket walking to the river and cleaning my self as we all do. I see a raven in the corner of my eye but as I look directly at it I see nothing. I help set the dinner table and eat. As it is dark feed the egg more of my mana causing me to pass out. the days continue with my warriror training everyday and my magical training 3 times a week. it did rain as floki had predicted making us stay inside allowing a repreve from training until my father made me and my brother do push ups in the house. Only to get scolded by mother for causing us to sweat and smell and making us take a cold shower in the rain. I make many more mistakes a child would getting scolded by both teachers and learning much more. After 6 weeks, I am looking stronger, almost cutting a third of the way through the tree, and my future sight is getting better with the oracle bones. Being born in the spring, the weather is now slowly getting warmer floki has tasked me with going to the forest and collecting a couple plants and berries. floki told me " pick black, red and blue berries from the forest to make paint and to pick tyme and mint." As I walked through the forest I hear chattering of men. not making a sound I get close and hear a man say "rest here we will attack at night." knowing that this is a raid party I start to run and break a few twigs causing the men to look and see me. As I run I can here the clatter of weapons and twigs snap from behind me. A fear is gripping my heart and I run as fast as I can reaching the edge of the village I start to yell "Raiders!!! Raiders!!" repeatedly once I cross the village edge I see my fellow villagers running to the long house as many men and younger men running toward me. My Father seeing me ask "Eric what is happening?" Out of breath I huff saying "there were men in the forest talking about attacking and they ran after me." Pointing back down the path toward nothing but not more than 5 minutes after we see a group of men down the path creating a shield wall. The chief yells at his men to form up a shield wall. My father pats my shoulder saying "Go to the hold and protect the family. You aren't ready to fight." My brother smiles at me and then a shield wall begins to form. I follow my father's advise walking to the hold looking at the warriors and shield maidens preparing to defend our village. As I reach the chiefs long house I see more shield maidens on each side of the long house as a second line of defense. My mother walks over to me asking what is happening and I tell her about my forest run. she gives me a large hug and says to sit with her incase we need to fight. I sit on a stool next to mom. now noticing that I had dropped most of the berries and smashed the rest thankfully the tyme and mint are fine even smashed as they are. after a few minutes we hear loud sounds of metal and wood crashing against one another. hoping that my brother is fine I see five men come from the opposite side of the fighting. My mother yells for the second line to take notice of the brigands. the second line had 5 shield maidens with shield and spear and two archers. thankfully out number the new attackers but as they are fighting I notice another man walking to the side behind houses out of my mothers view. he is carrying an axe and bow before I could react he pulls and arrow to take aim. before the arrow could be fired I yell "Noooo!!" causing a lighting to rain from the sky hitting the assassin causing him to explode and me to fall to the ground passing out.
