This desire was the cause of the conflict inside of Haruna. For as strong as her desire was, her doubt threatened it. The doubt would never be able to overtake Haruna's heart, but it didn't need to either. All it needed to do was exist, and that was enough to cause problems. How the night had gone was the perfect example. Haruna loved Kanako, and yet she had run away because she was too afraid to hear something she thought might be said.

However, just because she had doubts didn't mean that Haruna's feelings had faded. Her heart hurt, sure, but the love she had for Kanako was unmatched by anything else inside her. The thought did occur to Kanako that maybe that wouldn't be such a bad thing. If her feelings for Haruna just exploded, then they'd most certainly get across to her. But, something about that felt wrong. If Kanako let it happen like that, it might just cause confusion, or worse yet, it could have the opposite effect. What if Kanako came on too strong and scared Haruna off? That felt like a real possibility, so because of that, Kanako made the conscious effort to keep her feelings reined in as best she could.

Were they replacements? Or was Michi just faking it? Or, were they just more friends? Kanako couldn't really recall seeing Michi with people outside of their own group and the cooking club, so she wasn't sure, but as far as she knew, Michi hadn't had many other friends. What she did know though, was that seeing Michi with other people the way she used to be was a reminder to Kanako of just how big a gap there was between them.

Continuing, Kanako finished with Haruna's hair, giving her a warning to close her eyes before splashing her head with water. Moving on, Kanako went to wash Haruna's back. She had only been in a sports club for a short time, but the work she had put in was clearly defined in her muscles. Her back was strong and toned, and Kanako was entranced by it for a moment. Her fingers ran down along the surface of Haruna's skin, causing the girl to give a little yelp. "K-Kanako?" Haruna said, wondering what she was doing. "Sorry!" Kanako said, suddenly realizing what she was doing. Then she continued with washing Haruna's back.

To Haruna, who had confessed, had yet to receive an answer, and kept noticing all those things, she couldn't help but draw a negative conclusion. Haruna already believed that it was nearly impossible for Kanako to actually fall for her, but seeing her behavior over the last couple of weeks only further increased her belief. "There's no way she feels that way about me," she thought. It just felt too optimistic. All Haruna saw was a girl getting closer before then pulling away. Surely the reason was that she wanted to remain good friends, but knowing how Haruna felt about her, she wasn't sure if she could do certain things without giving Haruna the wrong idea. "That's probably it…" Haruna thought dejectedly.

It was moments like these that filled Haruna's afternoons in the hospital. For as long as she could, Kanako would stay until her mom called, telling her it was time to come home. On the third night of Haruna's stay, that call came once more. "Sorry… Looks like I need to go," Kanako said sadly. She apologized every time, which made Haruna a little happy. Seeing her look so regretful surely meant she didn't want to go. "It's fine. At least you don't have to do this anymore," Haruna said. "Huh? What do you mean?" Kanako asked. "I'm being discharged tomorrow afternoon. It's just a broken ankle after all, so it's not like they need to keep me here forever," Haruna explained. The news made Kanako's face light up. "That's great!" she said happily. "Hearing you're getting released will give me something to look forward to tomorrow." "You're going to look forward to it?" Haruna said with the raise of an eyebrow. "Of course. I love… s-spending time with you," Kanako said. Haruna noticed the hesitation she had spoken with. "Why did she hesitate?" she wondered. Kanako's comment only served to further stoke Haruna's belief in the distance that had formed between them.

"Okay patient, ready for your check-up?" Chiyo said, holding a clipboard and pen in hand. "What are you doing…" Michi groaned. "Hm? I'm your nurse. Now c'mon, open wide while I check your temperature," Chiyo said, pointing at Michi with a tongue depressor. "I don't need my temperature checked!" Michi yelled. "Oh? Ah, maybe you just don't want it in your mouth. Okay Mi-chan, turn over and stay still. Don't worry, I'll be gentle," Chiyo said, slowly approaching the helpless girl. "S-Stay away from me!" she screamed.

Once Chiyo had pick a few clothes out for her (and made a few jabs about the difference in their sizes), the two girls had dinner with Chitose before taking their baths (separately) and then getting ready to call it a night. Haruna and Chiyo kept talking about all sorts of random things, and it brought Haruna a great amount of comfort for things to be so normal again.

What brought about this idea was a singular white hydrangea flower in a thin glass vase on the nightstand. A few days after Michi had cried into Chiyo, the small girl had begrudgingly approached her about how she could say thanks. Jokingly, Chiyo had said Michi could get her flowers. The next day, Michi had thrusted a single flower into Chiyo's face. "Here's your stupid flower," she had mumbled with some red in her cheeks. Chiyo had assumed the blushing was only from embarrassment, but it made her happy nonetheless.
