A Saint Stand, you say?
They clashed with the dreadful wraith in the middle of the cracking bridge. Undying Slaughter was still stronger, faster, and far more malevolent than Nephis and Sunny… however, with Saint fighting by their side, the two of them were able to keep up.

Taking bets on which Shadow gets to go with Nephis! I'd like it to be Gloomy, they deserve it for the trouble they were undoubtedly put through training Crazy. Happy is a close second, because they're deserve it for keeping the mood up in Shadow Brigade Followed by Haughty because they're the gentleman of the group 😂 The others can fight it out amongst themselves ...
His shadows rose from the ground, flowing onto his body. One, two, three, four, five… the sixth one, however, wrapped itself around Nephis instead. At the same time, a generous measure of her pure flame filled him with radiant warmth. The sum of their powers was greater than the parts.

I think the likelihood of a memory is influenced by if there's a novel story or thematic link for the Nightmare Spell to follow. By giving the flower in the dream she helped increase the chances even more, but even just asking to be killed is a powerful plot point for the Spell to pick up on. In that way the Spell is a little like our current day GPTs and other transformer based AI, giving probabilistic output based on input. With a twist that it gives more valuable output for certain cases. Maybe it even values uniqueness and novelty in the input! This could even be how it "decides" what actions are defying fate, if it's constantly predicting future actions based on an initial fated timeline then actions that differ from these predictions are defying the odds in a very real way. Imagine if something like ChatGPT rewarded users for giving coherent input that differs from what it expected then to give, that's a basic version of what I think the Spell is doing. Also, as the leaders of Twilight were all people who entered the real tomb to become guides in the nightmare tombs of their people (themselves all challengers), then I suspect the leaders knew a lot about the rules of the spell when it came to nightmares, memories, and echos.

It's one of the big mysteries the book has been setting up, are the inhabitants of nightmares "real people", so to speak. Sunny seems to believe so, at least in part.
And so, with a heavy heart, he delivered the fatal strike to the beautiful Saint, as swift and merciful as he could make it. Then, Sunny used the divine flames of the Cruel Sight to ignite her body and stepped back, watching as fire spread across the wooden bed and devoured the silk canopy.

This, a missed opportunity for a terrific pun!
"Yeah. It tasted pretty amazing."

Everyone can hear what Sinny says, Sunny is forced to voice it out loud.
"Sunny. I… I… I remember."

Smoke me a kipper, I'll be back in time for breakfast!
"Neph, it might sound weird… but can you cook up something tasty while I'm gone? Go all out! Use any ingredient you need. It's rather important that you don't hold back."

Does the mask not affect Sinny? Especially interesting if true as everything Sinny says is voiced aloud by Sunny.
"Do you even have to ask the question? The image of a deceitful, selfish scumbag who outright told Nephis that she was a fool for dragging dead weight around, and that it would be better for the two of you to leave the useless blind girl for dead. Oh, what? You think that Cassie really did not hear that conversation?"

G3 is giving Sunny cliffhangers now!
Following the end of the battle, the Demon of Dread created a mystical river out of the titan's blood, and built a pyramid out of its stone flesh. The pyramid stood where the ocean had once been, and…]

With that, he plunged his sword into the Ascended warrior's neck.

Glad to see you back, hope you're feeling better now after the car trouble! :)This section with the ghosts and the trap is fun, it's Eldrian firmly in his element: scrambling to find a solution to a new problem, usually through creative and/or dangerous applications of his existing ideas! The under skin barrier idea is equal parts fascinating and horrific 😵

I think the flaw deals with intent and belief. It should be near impossible for him to intentionally fool the flaw, as he needs to truly believe he is going to buy the drink; but I don't think he'd get punished for lying if circumstances prevented him from actually buying it — e.g. he gets to the machine and it's broken or he's dragged off before he gets the chance to buy the drink.
Sunny grinned as he finished and sent the message, then fulfilled his promise by walking to the nearest provisions stall and ordering a cup of cheap synthetic coffee.

I like Core 1 already! What they lack in humanity they make up for in personality and snark 😆
