She can’t use higher abilities. She doesn’t have the mutant cells for it.
"I can see there is some confusion. The reason Layla has been selected is because of her ability. It matches well with her weapon. As you may know, the event differs slightly every year. I believe her versatile skills with using the bow will come in handy. Not only that, but she is currently one of the top students out of the first years in terms of points. She’ll complain of course, but she has tried to do that already herself. The difference, in my opinion, Ves is doing it in regards to mech design. Gloriana was doing it in regards to how the children view Ves as a person.

Nice to see Maxs optimization actually be able to be used for something specially for it. Nicos ability, while not as specific, usually seems much better. At least, that’s the impression I’ve gotten every time it gets brought up.
"This is where Max comes in. I have the repairs done, but this system is stupidly finicky, and I'm not sure that I can get it to actually work properly with the Functions that I have. But Max can optimize them, so as soon as I bring them online, he should be able to tweak the positioning using this control panel here and make them functional." Nico explained.

Her cyborg body can probably compensate for the high g’s and keep liquid moving as it should.
The inside of a fighter jet was ridiculously, childishly simple compared to a Mecha cockpit, and with his targeting skills, Max aced the exam without ever having to drop his speed. Nico also aced the exam, but almost failed on a technicality. Her body wasn't bothered by gravity the way an organic human was, so she wasn't limiting her maneuvering forces as much and almost destroyed the test plane while banking.

That revealed the secondary purpose of the Lasers. They could intercept artillery shells, exploding most of them in the air before they could do any damage to the Kepler forces below.
