when he first completed his set it would have been nice if this was included as well. Would have added more context and depth to that part of the story.

you should have put this part in before talking about the necromancer. It would have added to your story rather than going back now to explain it now.
In exchange for his help the player needed to do a quest for him first..... it was a vicious chain quest before coming to this location .... but his past life knowledge helped him skip that process completely.

I understand the concept of sedatives that the author is using... but during this time frame how would anyone understand an earth term such as roofie coming from the headmaster? Maybe use a report from the labs showing it would have the capabilities to incapacitate the person. Making their perception altered and reaction time sluggish or body becomes unresponsive close to paralysis.
"I can't be sure until the alchemic lab confirms it, but judging from the smell I'd say they were sedatives or roofies. I'm going to interrogate them as soon as they wake up. Depending on their answers and the lab results, I'll decide what to do. Off the record, they are as good as expelled, already.
