They didn't, actually. I loved the anime, don't get me wrong, but they made two contrasting claims. They said Shiro is capable of identifying *all* possible variations of the chess board just like tic-tac-toe. In other words, they claimed that shiro solved chess. (Something that humans currently have been unable to do.) then they pulled that chess game nonsense of making traps and such. I can appreciate you not knowing, not exactly common knowledge this, but I'm a chess nerd that has been going to competitions since I was a kid so yeah.
Because of how Smart both of us are. We are actually predicting the entire game. And I can't just use my supercomputer game for this to make the perfect move each time. There is a reason why A. I programs can be beaten. They only make the perfect move, which makes them predictable. Setting a trap for them is simple once you get the hang of it.

Locking your memories is actually a thing though? Sure, the average person can't even begin to attempt it, but this guy isn't being presented as average. ... Second point stands though. I think he just has the perspective that even if it doesn't work, better try and fail rather than wallow in mediocrity.
On the other hand, if he entered Heaven, then he would lock his thoughts in the depths of his mind and remain pious to God. It's actually lower than that, to be honest. Even in the USA, you only need a networth of 4.4 million to be part of the 1%. Considering the huge population numbers in africa and asia, which only have a few rich countries, then yeah, 1 million is basically a guarantee to be part of the global 1%
