Moose is so cute!
Moose gave me a sloppy dog kiss on the face with a funny little bark before staring out into the trees with a puzzled look. I patted him on the head and looked around the clearing but didn't notice anything out of order.

Driving through towns like this always gave me an eerie feeling. Everything looked like it was just abandoned in an instant. After a while, I caught myself staring at the empty windows as we passed, almost expecting to see someone looking back at me. I shivered, and the hair on the back of my neck rose as I imagined that the ghosts of the town's former inhabitants were still here and watching me from inside the houses.

"Teddy, I've just about had it up to here with you. You're starting to act just like that no-good father of yours." With that, she reached out and patted him on the head with an absent-minded smile. "Now, be a good boy and do as I say, and I'll bake you an apple pie for supper tonight. Also, be sure and clean up the mess after Bubba finishes, you know how messy of an eater your pappy can be."

An hour later, my parents drove off in their battered old pickup as the mall burned to the ground, taking a good part of the town's zombies with it. And a short time after my brother Lucas and I made our entrance into this world. My name is Kaley Black, and this is my story.

Kaley lives in a dangerous world! I really like the world-building, and even though it's a scary world, the characters live in. And every chapter seems to bring even more adventure and new dangers. The characters, even the minor ones, are so interesting and likable. I'm hoping that a few of them might show up again later on in the story or subsequent stories. Overall an enjoyable read!
