It used to be.. I ancient times. If you lied in court, bringing false accusations you suffered the very punishment the wronged person suffered. If they would have gotten the death penalty... then you received the death penalty. also is you committed a crime other than murder or capital crimes you had to "pay back" or recompense the value of the crime. It's where the whole justice is blind holding scales comes from. The problem came in at the people who enforced the laws and the wealthy and 1% started manipulating the laws so that they bent it and they didn't have to suffer those penalties... just the poor and working classes. Kind of what is starting to happen again in our societies now....
