Malazan Book of the Fallen does something similar with poems and quotes relevant to the story at the start of each chapter. I think the Fifth Season also does this. Never seen quotes from the MCs future self before though.

The only question she wants answered now, was how. What kind of skills and System does Van have for him to be able to turn a person's brain into a mush. Considering that he was most probably just level 1, it was worth looking into.

How would the other vampires not think of this possibility? They know Quinn has shadow powers and the main fear of users of the Shadow ability is that they can summon each other to their position.
What Quinn had said was true, but the main reason for picking Leo was because the others didn't know something that he had. A special skill that was related to the system only, a skill called 'call'. This skill would allow him to call Leo at any point and time to his position if he was ever in trouble.

It was clear he still had feelings for her, but Layla was unable to accept the gift. If she did, she would have just felt bad about it. She didn't want to lead him on when in her heart, she still had another, and perhaps another one was starting to enter it as well.

I thought the author already said there was no loger a point to levelling up charm because the level required to influence high tier vamps was massive.
As usual, Quinn placed the free stat point into his charm skill. Since it was the hardest one to gain points for. There was no natural blood type that would increase it after all.
