I don’t think he hides it because it’s weird, i think he hides it because it’s not very heroic. Thats like saying your quirk is summoning giant shanks from the ground to stab people infinitely, a very strong quirk but people wont see you exactly as heroic.
Izuku was annoyed with them at first and wanted to tell all of his classmates about his quirk, but then he realized, that he should probably not tell anyone about it, because it was unheard of having a quirk like that. So he didn't.

Thats an obscene amount of kills. The person with the most kills fought in Iraq and only has over 100 confirmed kills. I wouldn’t know but I don’t think it’s as easy as just going guns blazing in war, alot of emotional warfare as well to have to kill innocent women and children.
