The story is quite good for the author's first book, he has a grasp of what it is he's doing. The lack of an expansive vocabulary isn't that big of a deal nor is the style of writing. All in all, a good read and an excellent adventure to lose yourself in. It can be quite brutal but I for one enjoy that sense of honesty about the era the story takes place. There's a sense of romance as well between the two main characters that I enjoy, it's taking the damsel in distress and letting the hero suffer with her. It makes for an enjoyable dynamic that feels fresh for a romance arch. Though, this isn't a romance novel, it shows the characters feelings towards each other as they go through their harsh world together. Two major complaints; first, the lack of consistent updates, and secondly, a lack of detail with how magic works. I get there are limitations to what magic can do but at the same time, we don't know at all how it works so it feels more like the force in a sense were there's very little by way of explanation of how it works and we're led to believe it's a near god like power. The rarity of if saves this but the fact the main character becomes a god like figure able to vanish and use telekinesis makes it hard to balance with the realism the world tries so hard to depict.
