I'm assuming that they use pigeons as carrier birds. They are pretty well known for an absolutely fantastic built-in GPS in their DNA, so I guess we shouldn't be that surprised

Riftan never saw her scars because they were never there to begin with. To be precise, after the Duke was done beating Maxi (I have a chair ready in hand), he always had a priest nearby to heal her wounds immediately with magic whenever he was done. So Maxi never had any physical injuries. Can't say the same for her emotional and psychological ones
He grabbed her shoulders roughly. Hearing his rage-filled voice, Maxi went numb, feeling like a mouse before a hissing serpent. Perhaps he really would strike her this time. She clenched her eyes shut in terror, bracing herself for the blow that never came.

Wait, I thought they never got the chance to dance in a ball after the first time she danced and with someone else? . . I remembered that it actually was from another book, as I was writing my comment, and I ended up mixing up the details, Oops :P
When she placed her hand in his, he slowly began to lead. Maxi followed his well-trained steps as if her life depended on it. A hint of a smile appeared on his lips; he was clearly amused by her desperate attempts to keep up.
