I haven't had much of interaction with rotom in the games, except for the dex of course. I've recently played Sw/Sh and haven't caught a rotom yet lol. I dunno why but I think it's more of an everyday convenience Pokemon than an actual combat-oriented Pokemon.
Gengar would be the ideal choice but they were rare and extremely vicious. Faust didn't mind finding and raising a Gastly right from the egg. But if he could avoid it, he definitely would. Even Mismagius was not a bad option, Banette had a few shortcomings but it also had a Mega Evolution. The choices were many…Faust just stopped thinking and decided to choose based on what he saw.

I believe charm is a fairy type move, I think it was initially a Normal-type move but post generation vi it was made a fairy type.
As for the ones he would use, he had decided on Charm and Facade. Charm because of the need for a fairy type move and Facade because of its increased damage to status condition afflicted Pokemon. Once he had Sylveon he could use Dazzling Gleam and TMs such as Round, Snore and Retaliate, once he obtained them.

Actually it's like this, say you keep redeeming items that havent been discovered or recovered from the rifts. Eventually you're gonna be found out since your Pokemon just keep getting more and more stronger at an alarming rate. Also you will have to use the items, someone is bound to see you or find out how you've been using the items etc.
There were other items on the list worth redeeming but Faust wasn't going to hoard up treasures like a greedy dragon. He didn't have the power to protect his treasures, yet. Moreover, he needed to make the Wimpod strong and he would not compromise on that goal.

Believe me no cultivation in this novel. I agree with you on the fact that cultivation and Pokemon don't mix well together, I mean you have battle pets why would you want to fight on your own!?

Exactly as Narcox said. I had thought of nicknames, but the thing is it'll be difficult for the readers and the author(who has the memory of a goldfish) to keep up with the nicknames, after all he is gonna be completing the pokedex. Imagine having to remember over 700 Pokemon names...*shudders*
