everyone saying how Riftan threw tantrum, which is amazing seeing him acting like an actual teenager that he is, but I can't deny the Ruth snort got me as well. i can imagine Ruth just feeling proud of himself
He angrily kicked the doorpost. Though his boot knocked a hole in the wood, the only reaction it elicited was a snort from inside the room. He trudged back to his own quarters and lay on the cold bed.

This part hurts more after seeing why Riftan almost killed the duke. He also went through physical abuse as well, and seeing his wife, the woman he has loved all these years being abused really set him off.
The older man flexed his biceps, huge from years of hammering, and shook his calloused fists. Riftan had once received a blow to the temple from one of those fists for talking back. He had spent the day throwing up.

Riftan's expression just goes to show how his life has been before meeting Maxi, he's been on his own among mercenaries, battles, and maybe no one has ever been thoughtful or defended him from anything before, so Maxi being the one to care and be worried about him is still hard for him to get used to. just glad he finally has someone to care and love him. thanks for coming to my Ted talk

Gazing into the maidservant's dark brown eyes, Maxi nodded. Ludis smiled sadly and squeezed her hands as she stepped back. After hugging and giving each of the yowling cats a kiss, Maxi left the room.
