It doesn't really matter if THEY don't show mercy, it's more about ingraining it into the mind of the padawan that they shouldn't be cruel with their enemies. The Jedi are supposed too love selflessly, without attachement to anything. There was no real need for him too just crush his opponents like that, they were already on their way out. Basically he was a bit too indifferent in the way he went about doing things. Nate himself also (in the previous paragraph) admits that when he showed them mercy he didn't really act like it.
I follow Satele out of the med bay, and she escorts me to a private room. I walk in behind her, and she quickly closes the door. She blocks the exits and stares at me. "You shouldn't have killed them, Nate... How do you expect to receive mercy from an enemy if you can't give it? I have underestimated how strong you have grown in the little time I've trained you, and that's my fault..." She walks up to me and places a hand on my shoulder, and looks me eye to eye. "Your connection to the force... It's never been seen before... I need you to caution yourself." She is as sincere as possible.
