I think it’s good that you chose Yang to do it towards since there is a bit of a relationship between them but it would have been a bit awkward with someone like ruby or Blake since they are not as close and would have felt a bit forced. And a rwby fanfic with a faunas as the male lead that I know of is called (rwby wolf faunas).
