I like the question and not to spoil to much of the story. Yes he can kill demons but since he wasn't born naturally with the ability to kill demons, it will take some time for him to properly manifest these powers but can still defeat them and banish them back to the Warp. Great question, if there are more let me know I would be happy to answer them.

I waited for my impending death to come and claim me, I slowly lifted my head steering at the chains that bound me to the ground, for me to see them slip off my armour and fade to nothingness, I stood up placing myself firmly on the ground facing the heavens, " I swear on the Emporers name that I will not die, I will not rest until the moment I defeat you and your so-called champions, let my voice be horns of your destruction." darkness slowly crept towards me swallowing the very ground I stood upon, now left in darkness I can hear the sound of thunders laughter, like he dears to face me, I blink shutting my eyes for a mere second, great I am back at where I started, facing this bloody frakking door.

That's okay the Warp is weird to say the least. But when I did my research he came fully into existence some time in the Middle ages, so around the second Milennium. But I am glad you spoke your mind, enjoy the read.
In Warp four beings rule over portions of it through overwhelming power, each god has their domain, made in their twisted image. Khorne the god of war, martial honour, murder and Rage was born from humanity's unending wars and desire to kill. the second is Nurgle, the god of death, decay, despair and rebirth he was given life through the death of those who died in war and those who grew sick with fever, then eventually a horrible death. The third is Tzeentch the god of evolution, change, mutation and knowledge, he was born from the desire to change one's ways and to change their fate. The last is the youngest compared to her brothers Slaanesh the god/goddess of pleasure, excess, hedonism and perfection, she was created by the Aeldari due to their hubris and immorality due to that a large portion of their people were consumed by her.
