The Triss girl was a trap. I am suspecting Beatrix's sister Yasmine, she filed a missing person report too soon. we haven't seen her yet, she could be similar looking as Beatrix. When Yasmine was acting Beatrix with Kyle, Beatrix was killed? Maybe, the dad wants to stain Kyle's name so that his lawyer career is ruined in the hope that he might turn to his father? so many directions the story can go into!
She was still struggling to get a good look at the glasses through the bag. She politely asked the officer if she could open the bag to take a closer look. He indicated where she could grab some surgical gloves and stepped closer to monitor her more carefully.

A lot of the Tims she knew liked to brag about their electric vehicles the same way they boasted about how great their latest workout regime was. The ones who were married usually had some sort of souped up pickup truck to haul their boats on vacation. Andrea couldn't see Kyle falling into either of those groups. He would most likely be one of the petrolheads who drove a four-wheeled midlife crisis, like a Lambogini or a Mustang. The kind of car that could go from zero to sixty in five seconds but spends its whole life stuck in city traffic.

The threat of the ancient beasts, powerful and destructive creatures that could not be contained by darklings or powerful mages, breaking free from their prisons was way more catastrophic than what the dark abyss posed toward the entire world. Only the gods, especially the last God of the Underworld, Hel, managed to keep them locked away. But Hel was long gone, leaving Killian and Sera as the only ones to safeguard the seals.

I still am curious why the Unseelie king married Chrysanthe.
The blood of the golden mermaid, a mythical creature known for its healing properties, was supposed to help Iris strengthen the boundary between her power and the dark abyss. Killian knew he had to intervene before Iris lost control completely. Thankfully, Chrysanthe's ability to brew powerful potions and tonics had improved dramatically; no doubt her Unseelie husband was teaching her. He and Zephyr might not get along very well, but Killian admitted that the Unseelie King was unparalleled in his knowledge of alchemy.

I find her intention confusing.. what does she want to achieve by killing the entire human race? she hated humans because they didn't accept mages and punished some innocent souls - or so I could remember. They abused their power. Now she is doing the same thing - abusing her power and destroying so many innocent souls, an entire race most of which didn't have anything to do with her sorrow! how does it make sense to anybody?

I agree with both of you. it was too quick for Devon, but I am happy that the author didn't drag it for another 15 chapters. with the Golden dragon's power in Ez, Devon was sure to meet his doom soon. Most of the books keep dragging things, and some people lose interest along the way.
