Karl took notes as Hawk updated the map with resource points, including their likely strength, and the monsters that had been drawn to them. In Hawk's mind, that was likely the important part. He might not know what the plants did, but if they attracted monsters that were similar to him, Thor or Rae, then they were likely going to be useful.

I must say, I'm with the soldiers. We all know Karl will clear them properly anyway, and maybe get some cool adventures and loot from it.
But very few in the camp were actually concerned about the implications of stopping their clearance duties for a day. They all wanted to know how this drama was going to play out, and if there was going to be a new Base Commander at the end of the day.

The second group couldn't continue alone without him. It was simply too dangerous out here to allow them to go on without an Ascended Rank leader, especially with their diminished numbers.

I've just looked up Skill Master again to check, and it says it increases the chance of a beast learning new skills, but why has no one checked if he can use it on other people or Elites specifically? Seems like an oversight. But then, if it worked, he'd probably never leave the Academy grounds again.

In all honesty I'd love for Karl's next pet to be something like a Displacer Beast, something very fast and agile he can use as a mount and with magical attacks. He has a tank, a scout and a frontline fighter, but only Dana as a mage, and unfortunately we've seen she's not always around despite their wishes.

Lotus was preparing spells, layering them on her staff in preparation for the battle. Karl wasn't sure what she was planning, but it almost felt like they were precast, and waiting for a target. That might be her way of spreading out the stamina draw of extended mana use, but her techniques were her own.

To be fair, the others wouldn't have risked cooking for that exact reason, even if they could have done it.
