it's been a while since I read the beginning, but I think its because Harry is a child. It's like seeing an 11 or a 12-year-old nonchalantly kill (though attacking) an animal and having no reaction. I am not sure if I put it well.
The headmaster was a shrewd enough negotiator to know that going into any meeting where the other party held all the cards was not conducive to getting the result you wanted. Albus couldn't think of one single thing he had to bargain with. There was more than that disturbing him though, Harry had terrified him yesterday.
