Just me being a smarty-pants: A knight would not ride a warhorse for traveling either. A warhorse was specially trained for fighting, eg to kick and bite during battle and to be generally fearless. It also needs a considerably heavy build to carry an armoured knight, his weapons and armour on its body. It's not suited for traveling. So a knight would have at least two horses: one with a foul temper for fighting and one for traveling. Just my two cents.
