I think it's more just the knee jerk reaction. A manifestation of their fear from the last two scenes and the uncertain future that scared them. These two are just normal students and maybe a little introverted. So seeing such violent scenes just caused them to become terrified and momentarily affected by the dungeon's atmosphere. I hope they can turn around and change. Or come to understand Ryuji better. Remember, the world Ryuji sees seems to black out certain things from his view because of his Bipolar and mental issues.

Her actions are not a result of ignorance but are deeply rooted in her cultural background, which differs vastly from the human norm. Please understand that she doesn’t trust humans or even Ryuji here yet and will not disclose her abilities to them unless they win her trust. Calm down and toss your head cannon aside, thanks.
