Again, the chapter seems to have a lot of interesting foreshadowing.
ch 17 Chapter 17
Horror · Emica_Dolion
The chapter has a major plot point and a jump in the pacing with the release of much built-up tension. Some questions baffle me: what kind of murderer is this to have no DNA signature? It is human? It is a demon? What kind of creature is it?
ch 14 Chapter 14
Horror · Emica_Dolion
The buildup continues, and the mystery starts to deepen more.
ch 12 Chapter 12
Horror · Emica_Dolion
More of the characters' pasts and relationships with their mother is revealed.
ch 11 Chapter 11
Horror · Emica_Dolion
I suspect one of the characters here is the murderer, but I haven't read on yet. Would be an interesting twist if it were the case. The chapter moves into the religious dimensions, contributing to a more complex, interwoven number of storylines. I'm interested to see how the relationship with this pastor continues.
ch 0 9 Chapter 9
Horror · Emica_Dolion
Here, the author moves into the next part of the novel by introducing a "B-plot" - a love plot. The previous chapter was quite fast-paced, leading to this chapter slowing down to develop many social relations and the little details of the characters' lives. This adds complexity and a balanced pacing.
ch 0 7 Chapter 7
Horror · Emica_Dolion
The writing has minimal info-dumps and flows organically. The author introduces the characters' everyday life through small chunks of information such as dialogues and action. The writing is also concise and easy to understand. Even a brief skim allows me to understand 90% of the content easily. I am also beginning to see the inner and outer voices of the characters are well-distinguished. This chapter also slows down the pacing for a much-needed breather to focus on developing the characters and setting. Good pacing and story-telling.
ch 0 5 Chapter 5
Horror · Emica_Dolion
In the second chapter, the mystery and ominousness both build up from the first. The suspense is preserved, while the author introduces many new characters seamlessly. The reader is also introduced to the mundaneness of everyday life as the mystery begins to get unraveled.
ch 0 2 Chapter 2
Horror · Emica_Dolion
The chapter's intriguing first line immediately sets the tone and genre as a mystery novel. The tone is ominous, and the author creates an immersive setting while introducing the new characters. As a first chapter, this was well-written as it has a promising hook that encourages readers to read on.
ch 0 1 Chapter 1
Horror · Emica_Dolion
I am the author of 6 published novels (The Eternal Reflection novel series) and was asked to review the book. The opinions here are mine alone. This is an interesting novel that seems to have many intersecting genres. At first, when I read it, I thought it was pure mystery. However, the surprise came when I read on, realizing that the murderer has potentially many supernatural and symbolic elements. Although I read until chapter 14 and am waiting for the book to conclude, it seems to blend mystery, horror, and religious fiction. This adds plenty of complexity to the novel, which is very intriguing to read! Plenty of religious and literary symbolism inside adds an interestingly complex plot with many interwoven dimensions. The pacing is moderate to fast, with well-defined plot points. Also, the writing style, at a structural level, has good pacing. Fast and slow-paced scenes are balanced to develop the lives of the characters. The characters are multi-dimensional people with their pasts, literary past-times, and interests revealed slowly. There is minimal info-dumping, which is good, as the worldbuilding and characterizations are woven into dialogues and action. This is good writing. As I read on, the characters' voices become pretty unique and distinguished. There seems to be quite some tension between some of the characters, like the pastor, detectives, main characters, and their siblings. I hope to read on and find out - they add a large-than-life approach towards blending character and plot development. The only flaw that I can see are slight formatting issues with the dialogues. I have informed the author on how to fix them. Hopefully, after this review, she will fix them. However, they do not take away from the well-written reading experience. I patiently and excitedly await the release of chapters 15 onwards!
Brother.
