The night was annoyingly loud. No, scratch that, the rain was. There was so much thunder rumbling in the clouds that Alex could barely listen to his own thoughts. The minimum the stupid ward his mother had made could do was dampen the sound, no? Still, it was weird. In the almost a year that he spent living in his grandparents' cabin, he'd never seen the sky behave like that.

Looking at her now, asleep, I'm amazed by how peaceful her face is. If I'm going to be her "dad", I've got to be worthy of her trust. The two of us had no luck with our godly parents, so I have to be better than that. Better like my dad. I may only be eleven, but that's no excuse. I'll keep this little family together.

Why does he have the scar? His healing factor should leave nothing behind. I know some people find scars "cool", but is a little inconsistent, or he also have a terribly scared belly?
Alex touched the scar on the left side of his mouth that never healed and felt the uneven skin. Even the police had asked if he'd gotten into messy situations before.
