The reason he wanted to contact Roger was to add some hope for himself and even his Crew member to survive the upcoming major event. After all, the upcoming God Valley battle, or other major battles happening at the same time in other places, are likely to be quite fierce. Even Admiral-level combat power might directly fall in this conflict.
