I have a theory, the sunny from the future (sovereign sunny) wanted to delay our sunny enough so the nightmare will end exactly as it did and not really stop him from freeing himself. if he really regretted his decision, he would have stopped sunny by force or at least a little bit more so he only gained weavers soul attribute without encountering the vile bird

I agree with you, but you are forgetting the most important point... we have seven gods!!! the forgotten god. and again we see misinformation, or more correctly lack of knowledge by the people affecting the story

Viewed from this perspective, it almost seemed as if the purpose of the Nightmare Spell was to repopulate the Dream Realm, which had been turned to lifeless hell by the Doom War, and breathe new life into it. To push the wheels of history that had stopped spinning a long time ago and make them revolve again, carrying the once desolate world into the future.

I agree with you, in my opinion the drawing was done by humans/dream inhabitants so they remembered six gods and drew a representation for them.... the seventh god was there in reality but because he is forgotten he was not mentioned in the story
The next few murals depicted the battles between the six radiant figures and the vague shapes hiding in the darkness of the abyssal void. Sunny found them quite funny… he already knew that the war between the gods and the unknown were waged with weapons like death, time, and space. It had truly been a war beyond human comprehension.
