Just gonna put this out there but behaving and not doing anything stupid because you’re scared of punishment and behaving because you understand rules and the consequences of your actions (harm to others for example) and want to avoid them may lead to the same outcome but I prefer the second option because it is based in genuine empathy. Even though they may overlap as i think most people have empathy. Also small violence for lack of a better word as a solution to problems will teach the child that violence can be a solution which in an ideal world it shouldn’t be. Children learn a lot by looking at their surroundings so you should always be mindful what examples you set. There are alternatives to spankings and such.
