This chapter was brilliant. I appreciate Vanessa's questions because I have been feeling frustrated as well. I know Dominik is doing everything he can, but him just following Ivan around undoing the evil he does, it doesn't ever actually stop. I'm glad Vanessa pointed out the futility, now that has been realized, maybe they can build trust and come up with a plan together.

That's a very good point. If he has literally never had someone close that he felt safe with, he has probably never been able to be honest about how he feels about Ivan. If Dominik has had to pretend his whole life to save himself, he really isn't anymore free than Vanessa. Hopefully they will team up, because it seems both Dominik and Vanessa need help.
If that's true about Ivan, and it has to be, then I wonder what side Dominik falls on. He doesn't seem anything like a worshiper. If he was, he'd likely be treating me a lot differently and he wouldn't have tried to warn me about the danger I was in the first place. But does that really mean he hates Ivan? I can't see that either.

Me either, Vanessa. He clearly abhors Ivan's behavior, but why doesn't he seem to hate him? Maybe Ivan wasn't always so evil, and Dom is holding onto a past version of him? I don't know, but Dom and Vanessa are very much on the same side and it is so weird to me that he tries to be diplomatic about Ivan when it's just him and Vanessa.

It's an interesting dynamic right now. They aren't outwardly hostile with each other, but there is a wariness and lack of trust. And honestly, even though Dominik isn't a bad person, the fact that he aided in Ivan's plan to kidnap her and now Dominik's hands are tied in helping her... it doesn't make Dominik look like he is very capable of protecting her. It feels like he is bailing water out of a sinking ship, the sentiment is nice, but not enough. If I were Vanessa, I wouldn't be feeling super hopeful.

I know, I was thinking about how devastated she would feel about that. My heart also hurts for her family, knowing how tenacious and aggressive Luci is about protecting his loved ones, I feel like he is probably struggling so much.
It started out with sinking despair, lying in a foreign bed and staring at the window, imagining what my mother was feeling when the sun came up Saturday morning and I wasn't home. Imagining my father calling his men, calling Luciano, making orders and demands and secretly panicking inside. Imagining the two babies who are due in a few weeks and the attention and joy that's going to be stolen from their arrivals—all because of me.

I feel horrible for Vanessa. I hope Dominik is truly able to help her... like asap, since she is literally traumatized and starving. I'm kind of surprised that Dominik didn't try seeing her for three days, but I think he is a little rattled by how this is affecting him and he truly is in a rough spot to offer a helping hand.
