The Phalanx is a formation used by the Greeks, first adopted by the Macedonians, which made use of round shields and long spears. Used initially also by the Romans until they changed tactics and adopted a a more in your face strategy using the scutum and short swords, which provided more flexibility compared to the phalanx, which requires a lot of training and coordination to avoid the formation being ruined by it's own man when repositioning. The Phalanx is Amazing formation for holding chokepoints and in general your flanks are secure, also amazing vs cavalry who charge you from the front :)
Now, the defense was the circular wooden shields enough? I remember the fight against the stone monster, the goblins tried to protect each other by lining their shields together. If it was a human opponent then that makeshift formation had too many holes but luckily the stone monster only knew how to swipe its claws. If old man Hus can make tower shields or the scutum then that's a different story. Long rectangular shields held by the Roman legion were called the scutum and it was the core of the phalanx formation.

David nods to me and we both walk along the bank of the river. Each step was slow and steady as we were trying not to slip on the muddy ground. It was the first time going down the canyon, the first time we reached this spot was the initial journey from the small cave after the first event. Speechless from the waterfall and exhausted from the journey we founded HaveFall but barely searched the surroundings. Afterwards, the only places we travelled to was the forest. Now it was time to search deeper into the canyon and find out if there are any enemies or resources in this area.

Vincent didn't care what price he would have to pay, he had lived a long life and his current body was nothing but a clone. He couldn't imagine how Quinn would feel if they would have to tell him that they had allowed Layla to die… at the hands of a Dalki version of Helen, no less, while all of them had just stayed by the side.

Double checked, i still think it's a typo, why put adventurer there twice? I had to re-read the sentence multiple times instead of going forward with the story which interrupted the experience for me. It could be that i'm nitpicking as you're saying, but i'm not doing it to criticize the authors work, but to support him/her in case of a future rewrite. Hopefully my intention are clear now. Also thanks for challenging my comments, i deleted a wrong "typo" comment i left previously after you pointed it out in an earlier chapter.
