Chương 1: Chapter 1: Escape Through the Dense Forest

It took Hayato all morning to adjust to this body that was twenty years younger. Finally, he accepted the fact that he had traveled through time.

Six hours ago, Hayato was still a mage selling magical creatures on the Taobao-like website "Peach Full Net."

He had just received a big order for three hundred custom-made 6IV top-tier magical creatures and was about to stay up all night modifying them. But as soon as he finished tweaking the first one, everything went black before his eyes. When he opened them again, he found himself in this world.

After freezing in place and watching a thirty-centimeter-long green worm crawl over him, Hayato finally confirmed that he had crossed over into the world of Pokémon.

As a Pokémon fan who had no family ties in his original world, traveling to a world he loved was naturally something to be happy about.

But his current situation made it impossible for him to feel excited.

Damn it! Other people who time-traveled always ended up in big cities, possessing someone else's body. But he had to land in a remote, uninhabited mountain forest!

Just a few minutes ago, he had barely escaped from a Caterpie habitat, only to run straight into dense bushes inhabited by Beedrill!

As everyone knew, Beedrill were fierce, hot-tempered Pokémon with a strong territorial instinct. If someone intruded into their territory, there was a 99.9% chance they'd be attacked.

Staring at the Beedrill before him—its red eyes glaring and its two thick, white stingers gleaming ominously in the shadows—Hayato couldn't help but gulp.

If those stingers pierced his body, his barely-begun journey as a Trainer would be over before it even started, wouldn't it?

"Buzzzz!"

The Beedrill's mandibles emitted a strange buzzing sound. Hayato could swear it was anything but a friendly coo.

Sure enough, the next second, the surrounding bushes rustled, and pairs of ruby-like eyes began to glow in the darkness.

Hayato turned and ran.

The sound of Beedrill wings fluttering was right behind him.

When a fork in the forest path appeared in his line of sight, Hayato suddenly felt like he was playing Temple Run.

"Thwack!"

A sharp pain shot through his waist, instantly snapping Hayato's attention back to reality.

Owwww! He'd been hit by a Beedrill's Poison Sting! It hurt so bad!

Heaven is out to get me! Hayato thought miserably.

But just then, a river appeared to his left.

Hayato was so excited he nearly burst into tears.

He quickly changed direction and dove straight in.

At that moment, he was infinitely grateful that he had learned how to swim before crossing over.

Water rushed into his ears and nose. Holding his breath, Hayato flailed around and grabbed onto something hard.

Opening his eyes, he saw, amidst the rushing currents, a dull-eyed creature covered in red scales.

Oh my god, wasn't that the legendary Magikarp?

As the Magikarp struggled in his grip, the water's force made Hayato lose his hold.

The next second, he personally experienced the feeling described in the lyrics, "Cold icy rain slapped chaotically against my face."

Hayato's eyes reddened from the stinging pain. Worse, he couldn't even surface.

Because through the water, he could see the swarm of Beedrill still hovering above, clearly not planning to let him off easily.

He couldn't stay here.

Holding his breath, Hayato began swimming downstream.

After about ten meters, he surfaced for air before diving back under.

He had no idea how long he swam, but once he was sure those damned Beedrill weren't chasing him anymore, he finally climbed ashore.

Looking at the reflection of his handsome face in the water, even though he was twenty years younger, Hayato immediately recognized his ten-year-old self.

As expected of me—already a looker at ten.

After all that chaos, his clothes were completely soaked.

Earlier, Hayato had noticed the leaves in the forest were starting to yellow. If he wasn't mistaken, it was probably autumn.

He was still wearing the clothes from before he crossed over—a white T-shirt with a blue tracksuit jacket on top and gray sweatpants below.

Making sure the area was safe for now, Hayato took off his clothes to check the wound from the Beedrill's attack.

Thanks to the fabric barrier, the semi-transparent purple stinger hadn't fully penetrated his skin.

Using a leaf, Hayato pulled out the stinger and saw that the surrounding skin had turned a faint purple, accompanied by a burning pain.

Clearly, he'd been poisoned.

Hayato was devastated.

When Pokémon got poisoned, their HP gradually drained until they fainted. But what about humans?

Hayato didn't even want to imagine.

To make matters worse, his stomach growled loudly.

He was hungry.

Earlier, he'd noticed that many trees in the forest bore fruit-like objects—probably what this world called "Berries."

Unlike regular fruit, different Berries had different effects.

For example, Cheri Berries cured paralysis, Rawst Berries healed burns, and what he desperately needed right now—a Pecha Berry to cure poison.

The question was, would Berries even work on humans?

Aside from Berries, Hayato had also spotted plenty of ordinary fish in the river.

Just as he'd thought, the Pokémon world had regular animals alongside Pokémon.

Hayato spread his jacket on the ground to lie down and rest. The intense exercise had drained his stamina.

Gazing at the clear sky through the patchy canopy, he realized his top priority was to get out of the forest, find a human settlement, and seek a cure for the poison.

After all, the forest was huge. Finding a Berry tree would be hard enough, let alone locating a Pecha Berry.

As he pondered, Hayato suddenly felt something poking his waist.

Sitting up, he reached into his jacket pocket and pulled out a small purple sphere.

Somehow, when he touched it, the sphere rapidly expanded in his hand, returning to its normal size.

When he saw what it was, Hayato froze.

Purple on top, white on the bottom, with a white button in the middle and an "M" insignia above it.

This was… a Master Ball from the games.

How?

He pressed the button. With a click, the Master Ball opened, and a beam of white light shot out.

From the light emerged a Pokémon covered in orange feathers.

Well, not entirely orange—the feathers on its chest and neck were a striking white, almost like a Westerner's dinner napkin.

"Gah!"

The Pokémon propped up its head with a wing and stared at him with round, vacant eyes.

Hayato stared back.

It stared at Hayato.

The next second, a flood of information abruptly filled Hayato's mind.

============================

!!!

Hayato was stunned.

Wasn't this the very first Pokémon he'd modified for that customer?

Cramorant—a Shiny Cramorant, a Pokémon from the Galar region.

In the games, Cramorant's description read:

Although Cramorant is extremely forgetful, it will never forget the Trainer it has bonded with.

However, if its food is stolen, it will attack without mercy—even if the thief is its Trainer.

Since this was the first test subject, Hayato had set its six base stats to absurdly high values.

The four moves it knew were also intentionally ridiculous additions.

Not only had this Cramorant crossed over with him, but the software used to modify its data had come along too!

He could already see the corresponding information in his mind!

OG Author’s Notes:-

1. This isn’t a brainless power fantasy about collecting and slaughtering everything.

2. A different take on traditional Pokémon fanfics.

3. The author can’t write female characters, so no romance.

4. This world has regular animals. Others may eat Pokémon, but the protagonist won’t—nor will he modify Pokémon for sale.

5. Not a dark fic.
