2.68% Pokémon: Transmigrated with My Half-Broken Modifier System / Chapter 3: Chapter 3: Finding Joy in Adversity

Chương 3: Chapter 3: Finding Joy in Adversity

He had once heard a rumor: humans in the Pokémon world were actually a special kind of Pokémon.

Twenty minutes after eating the Pecha Berry, Hayato watched as the poison marks on his waist began to fade.

This phenomenon further confirmed the truth of that rumor.

Perhaps this was why some humans were born with special abilities?

Like Power of Viridian, Psychic abilities, or Aura.

The Greedent, seeing this, twisted its round body to leave after confirming everything was fine.

Hayato quickly called out to it, taking the chance to check its detailed stats.

"Squeak?" The Greedent turned around, making a puzzled noise, as if asking, Is there anything else?

Hayato asked, "Do you know which direction leads to a human town?"

"Squeak…" The Greedent appeared to think, then quickly pointed in a direction.

Hayato's face lit up with joy. Thanking the Greedent, he turned and continued forward.

As he walked, he compared the details of the two Pokémon.

Cramorant's base stats and moves had been modified, but aside from those, it wasn't much different from a normal Pokémon.

The only oddity was that Cramorant's current mood was displayed as garbled code, while the Greedent's emotions were clearly visible.

Thinking this, Hayato checked the stats of other wild Pokémon by the roadside.

Sure enough, their mood sections displayed words like "Wary" or "Nervous."

Is it because of the modifications that Cramorant can't understand human language?

Or perhaps modifying a Pokémon causes irreversible brain damage, turning it into an idiot?

Hayato couldn't be sure.

This cheat ability had been with him for years. Before transmigrating, it had been his livelihood.

At first, he was thrilled that it had come with him. But now, upon closer thought, something felt off.

The "Ability Modifier," "Base Stat Modifier," and "IV Modifier" templates were missing. Now, all he could use were Appraisal, Move Modifier, and Shiny Modifier.

Did I lose them along the way? Hayato had read plenty of web novels but never heard of such a thing.

But then again…

Transmigration itself was already unbelievable. Anything else happening wouldn't be strange.

After careful consideration, Hayato decided not to use any functions other than Appraisal on Pokémon until he uncovered the truth.

After all, Pokémon here weren't just game data—they were flesh and blood, with emotions and intelligence.

Without transportation, human travel speed was limited.

By nightfall, Hayato still hadn't seen any sign of a human town.

To make matters worse, rain began to fall.

With no other choice, Hayato stopped and found shelter in a hollow tree, wrapping himself in his damp clothes.

I'm really unlucky.

Watching the heavy rain outside, Hayato forced a bitter smile.

Still, there were some silver linings.

He'd found temporary shelter and, not far away, a wild berry tree laden with fruit.

Since his clothes were still damp, Hayato released Cramorant and held it close for warmth.

In situations like this, Cramorant was surprisingly well-behaved. Though they couldn't communicate, they shared a silent understanding.

The autumn rain drizzled on as wild Pokémon throughout the forest sought shelter.

After the initial commotion, the woods grew quiet, leaving only the sound of rain.

In the dim light, a line of Seedot huddled under dense foliage, while Dustox that usually fluttered about now clung motionlessly to tree trunks, hiding from the rain.

Hayato took out the berries he'd picked earlier, splitting them half with Cramorant and saving the rest for dinner and breakfast.

It wasn't enough to fill his stomach, but it was better than nothing.

Suddenly, rustling came from outside.

Hayato looked up to see a drenched Sentret staring at him.

The Sentret clearly hadn't expected a ten-year-old boy to be hiding here. Startled, it turned and scurried into the bushes.

Hayato: "…" Am I really that scary?

Normally, Hayato wouldn't sleep until past midnight. But after a full day of wandering blindly through the forest—and with the soothing sound of rain—he soon closed his eyes.

When he woke again, dawn had broken, the rain had stopped, and—most importantly—Cramorant was gone!

Hayato panicked, scrambling out of the tree hollow. Just then, Cramorant flew back from the sky.

Relieved, Hayato sighed.

Cramorant landed and opened its beak, dropping a plump magikarp.

"Gaaah!"

Hayato brightened. "Is this for me?"

Cramorant didn't respond. Having already eaten its fill, it stood to the side, preening its feathers with its beak.

Hayato's mood sank. Still no communication, huh?

He looked at the barely breathing fish. Without fire, he couldn't cook it, and he wasn't hungry enough to eat it raw yet.

After some thought, Hayato plucked a few large leaves, wrapped the fish in them, and placed it in his makeshift bag along with yesterday's leftover berries.

For multiple reasons, Hayato decided not to return Cramorant to its Master Ball this time.

He tried giving it a follow command. Cramorant tilted its head, looking blank.

Hayato then walked ahead without calling it. This time, Cramorant followed on its own, perching on his shoulder like Nana's Mamahaha.

"You sure know how to pick a spot…" Hayato muttered.

The post-rain forest was damp and uncomfortable. Hayato felt like fifty Caterpie were crawling and wriggling all over him.

After walking a while, human voices suddenly sounded in the distance.

Hayato's spirits lifted.

Holding his breath, he pinpointed the direction and ran toward it.

From afar, he spotted two men in matching uniforms, accompanied by their Pokémon.

Before them lay a small, white Pokémon.

Two towering Mightyena closed in from different angles, growling menacingly.

Huh? Something feels off.

Hayato stopped, hiding with Cramorant in the bushes, only their eyes peeking out.

"Damn, finally caught this little thing!" the burlier man on the left cursed.

His partner grinned. "This one'll fetch a great price!"

Now, Hayato could see the white figure clearly.
