Aurelian Lies
A few sparrows dance through the air, chirping in sunlight as they rest upon a branch, chirping, and looking in the distance, through a window...
The sunlight creaks into the room, books displaced everywhere, some on the dusty wooden floor, and some on the work table next to the window. A man yawns, his footsteps approaching the window as he picks up a book from the ground, holding it up, taking a good look at it, as long black hair trails down around his face, and back.
He smiles, swiping some dust off the book, as he walks up to the window , wearing nothing but a simple brown shirt and pants, placing the book on the cluttered desk, atop the other books.
On it reads, "The Kingdom of Winds"
The man in the back, dressing up, his visage blurred, now donning a black cloak, he picks up his cane and top hat as he walks out.
A feather flies in from the window, floating around, pushed afloat by the winds, as it slowly lands on a half opened letter next to the book on the desk.
On the letter, many words are smeared ,or too creased to read, but one sentence stands out, clearly, "Your debts have been forgiven, by royal decree, you shall no longer be confined..."
The rooms door shuts close as the man closes it, the sunlight falling in the now, quiet room.
The sun’s golden rays fall softly upon the room,
A gentle light, brilliant yet deceiving.
For this world hides many lies,
Some bare,
Some gilded in gold,
And some that will never be known.
