I realise when he was about thirteen, that he was starting to see you, Lexi in a different light.  You were not a friend, or the sister that he did not have.  Firstly, Lexi it was that you were a girl that he liked.  With his friendship circle, he knew that pursuing you would not only damage his friendship with your brother Andrew but draw Chester into becoming overprotective towards you and damage Chester and Phillip's relationship.

That overprotectiveness towards Phillip kicked in because he knew that Phillip liked Chester.  I remember Matthew saying to me 'Grandpa, why is Phillip not allowed to show people how he feels about Chester.'  I had to dance around the explanation there.
