Chapter 86: The Internet Posts
The guards were waiting for me and Nancy at the back entrance of the motel. I was so puzzled. Why would reporters be interested in me?
"How many reporters were there?" I asked the guards when we got in the car.
"Around five, ma'am and some photographers. There were also around 20 people outside waiting for you. They look angry."
"Why would they be? What did I do?"
"I think it's better to check social media app, ma'am. You're one of the most talked about people this time," says the female guard.
I and Nancy got our phones to check the trend list in the web. The name Jessica is on the 15th rank. I clicked on the name and I saw some of my pictures posted on the website. One picture was when I and Geoff went to the beach. Another was the date I had with him when we first met. There is another picture of holding many shopping bags. Different nasty descriptions of me were also posted by anonymous people.
"How could she leave her husband when she already had everything? There are really women in the world who don't know how to feel satisfied," says one.
"Her husband is the sweetest man ever. What else does she need? Did she only have a baby to get more money from her husband? What a terrible woman!" says another.
"I can't believe she has the courage to come back in town like nothing happened. Her husband suffered a lot when she left her with their baby. Doesn't she have a conscience?"
"Sorry." Nancy broke the silence. "I never thought it would happen. I guess it is Ericka's plan. This scenario never came up in my mind."
"It's not your fault. I was so excited with how I can avenge with them. I forgot that they are powerful. We are nothing compared to them."
"We have your husband now. I'm sure he will help you if you would ask him."
"This is my fight. I don't even know what to tell him. How can I explain this to him?"
"Didn't you notice? There was no picture of you in the department store and the hotel."
"What are you trying to say?"
"Nothing. I'm just curious why the used old pictures of you. According to some comments, you are back in town, but why were there no pictures of you taken at present in the web? It's just suspicious."
"Ericka and Geoff were too busy. They never thought about taking pictures."
"They could use the CCTV footage, excuse me."
"I don't want to think about those things yet. I am more worried about how to explain this to mom and Colin. I'm sure they are also surprised."
"That's another thing. Your mom and you husband, did they call you or send you a message?
"No."
"Strange." Nancy ended. I can't think properly now. I can't even understand whay she is talking about. Maybe mom doesn't know what's happening. She normally doesn't check social media websites. And Colin, I guess he is so busy that he doesn't have time for reading gossips in the web.
All the people in the car are quiet. No one said a word. I looked outside the car and tried to think on what to do while Nancy took her laptop and she is now typing something. Why is this always happening to me? I could feel happiness only for a short time and then it will be changed to worry and sadness.
When we reached the apartment, Nancy and I were so scared to enter the unit. We could imagine my mom looking at us with anger in her eyes. Maybe Colin didn't go to work. He know that we will be back during lunchtime. How could we explain this problem to them?
When we finally found the courage to enter the unit, Athena came running to me immediately.
"Mama!"
"How's my baby? Did you miss me? I missed you so much. I was thinking of you the whole time."
"I mith you, mama. Do you have any gift fol me?" Athena asked. She still has a hard time pronouncing 'r' sounds which I find very cute.
"No, but we will go down later to buy something in the store, okay?"
"Yehey!" Then she went back to what she was doing. My mom looked at us with a smile on her face.
"How was your night out? Did the two of you have fun?" She asked which made us more confused. Doesn't she know anything?
"It was good mom. Did anything happen while we are out? Where is Colin?"
"Your husband went to work but he told me he will be back hime early today. Did you have lunch?"
"Not yet my second mom. I'm hungry." Nancy said who id now back with her crazy self.
"Let me prepare food for the two of you. I will also give food to the guards downstairs. I'm sure they didn't eat yet."
"See? We don't need to worry. She knows nothing." Nancy said when mom went to the kitchen to prepare food.
"Do you think we should tell her?"
"Tell her? Why would we make her worried? It's best that she doesn't know anything."
"But she would be angrier when she finds out."
"She will never find out. Trust me."
Everything seemed normal that day.
I checked the net to read more comments about myself but to my surprise, no information can be found about me. I typed Jessica many times but all the pictures and comments are now gone. The name Jessica now leads me to a name of a celebrity.
"Nancy! Have you checked the social media app? My name and my pictures are now gone!" I called Nancy's attention who is now writing something on a piece of paper.
"Really? Let me check!" She took her phone and started typing something. "You're right. The gossip about you are now gone. What do you think happened?"
"I don't know. Maybe they realized that it's useless to spread false rumors about other people."
"Maybe, Ericka is behind this black propaganda about you and then, your terrible ex husband found out about it, so he asked Ericka to remove all those posts about you. He still has conscience, huh?"
"Do you think so?"
"Of course! He is scared that people will find out about the truth and if that happens, people will start attacking him instead."
"Why is your imagination becoming wilder and wilder?"
"I told you, I'm a writer." Nancy said proudly. Could it be really him?
We spent the whole afternoon acting normal. We played with Athena and helped my mom with house chores. Before 4pm, Colin arrived home. Aside from he hugged and kissed ne more, everything seemed to be normal. He didn't ask anything about what we did yesterday and last night. He never mentioned about the post on the internet. Like my mom, it seems he doesn't know anything about what's happening. I'm starting to ask myself whether the thing that happened this morning are real or was it part of a dream?
After dinner, mom put Athena to sleep and then she and Nancy left our apartment unit. This is the time that makes me feel more nervous. What if Colin is just waiting for Nancy and my mom to leave? Then he will confront me about the post on the internet, the reporters and what I did in the hotel. As his wife, I shouldn't hide anything from him. He trusted me with everything and here I am hiding my plans from him.
He used the bathroom first and when he was done, I tried to avoid him by taking a shower. I don't know what to tell him and how I should start confessing. I'm sure he knows what I did and he also knows about the reporters. I spent a longer time in the shower than usual. I was hoping he is already asleep when I go to bed but he was still reading a book.
He looked at me with a smile when he saw ne coming. "Let me just finish some pages, okay? I am reading about the new equipment we got for the company."
"That's okay, take your time." I answered.
I could feel a sense of awkwardness in the room. Or is it just me?
"Done! I'm thinking about hiw we will spend our weekend. Why don't we go camping? I want to take you to the beach but I'm sure you're sick and tired of it."
"I would enjoy it anywhere we go. I'm sure Athena wouldn't mind me. Uhm.. Don't you want to tell me something? I know you are aware of what happened this morning, about the pictures and posts about me in the web."
"What posts? I don't know what you're talking about." He said innocently. Doesn't he really know?
"Are you sure you know nothing about it. Do you want me to tell you?"
"Haha! Do you still see those posts until now?" He asked.
"No. They are suddenly gone." I answered.
"Exactly! It was already taken care of. Do you think I will let anyone insult you like that?"
