Chapter 5: Wingman Skanda
" The officers behind me are your Captain's. From here on out you will be divided into groups and will be placed under their supervision. They will be in-charge of your training in battle skills and will also help you out to understand more about your own skills. You are now in military and it is mandatory of you to obey the commands of your senior officials."
"Finally, there is one ultimate rule for everyone to follow. 'No killing within the city'. Anyone one who doesn't conform shall be gravely punished. Best of luck to you all." saying this the man went away and the 12 people behind him walked to the front.
Things moved pretty faster from then on, the chosen were called out by their names and organized into 12 different groups. Since there were so many of them, around a thousand of the chosen were under a single captain.
During the process, people were starting to feel hungry and by the time the whole process was completed it was almost afternoon. Many people couldn't control their hunger and approached the captains to ask for food, but they were immediately denied and got yelled at, to go back. Seeing the captain's stern expressions other people choose not to approach and instead just sat in the garden.
Fortunately, or unfortunately Skanda was also in the same group as Skye and approached him in the meantime. "Hello bro, it seems we are under the same captain. Let's be friends, we can help each other in the future."
Remembering yesterday's incident where Skanda deliberately teased him, Skye felt reluctant to talk to the kid, but since the kid was just being friendly today, he replied with a single word
"Okay ".
"Bro, did you look at the shops and people of this city? The world here looks very different."
"Yes"
"Bro, these people are constantly talking about killing and other things, do you know what all that is about? "
"No"
"Bro, I saw a beautiful girl within our chosen. She has a very pretty face and charming body, have you seen her?"
"What? where? Little bro, quickly...tell me, where is she?" Skye said immediately forgetting that he is still a little peeved with the kid.
"Now you talk huh? Forget about it. I think you don't want to be friends with me. I'll find other good people." saying this Skanda turned around to walk away, but Skye quickly held his hand and said.
"Little bro, don't say it like that. It wasn't what happened!...I was .... I was just thinking some things in my head so I couldn't properly reply. You must be hungry, here, take this apple. It is a small gift from the big brother to start of our friendship." Skye said handing him an apple from the cloth bag.
"Bro, it looks like you have even more apples in there. Can I have more?"
Skye didn't say anything and just looked at the kid with narrow eyes, he felt like he was being played by the kid. Skanda immediately said," Bro, if you give me more, I might even introduce you to the beauty. I am a good friend of the girl."
"Oh, little bro, you are such a good kid. Here, take 2 more apples. I heard that a growing kid needs more nutrition than adult. You can eat these apples till your stomach fills." Skye said handing him 2 more apples.
"Follow me." the kid said taking the apples and gesturing Skye to follow him.
Following the kid, Skye saw a group of men gathered around 2 girls. One of the two girls had a very pretty face, she was around 5'6", with incredibly charming body. She was talking freely and playfully with the men of the group, engaging with everyone. She was a social butterfly. She had on a peach coloured, knee length, cocktail dress with red stiletto heels. It looked like she was in a party before getting teleported here.
Beside her was an elegant looking girl. She had on a white, square neck sundress, with floral patterns on it along with normal sandals. She looked simple and pleasant but still very beautiful. She was a little bit reserved and was not talking much with the men but whenever she did there was an air of grace around her.
There were similar other groups, some gathered around women and some with just men, but this was the biggest group he could see around. The girls from other groups gave flippant looks whenever they looked towards this group.
Skanda cut in between the surrounding men and went up to the girls. He said "Sisters, hello! Do you remember me?"
"Oh! Hello kid, didn't we just meet yesterday, how could I forget? It's nice seeing you again." the charming looking girl said.
"Sisters, it looks like we are under the same captain. I hope you look after me in the future." saying this Skanda took out the 2 extra apples and gave it to the elegant looking girl saying " You two must be very hungry, here, take these apples. My brother has lots of them so he gave me a few."
"Thank you Skanda. You are such a good boy." the elegant looking girl said.
"And where is your brother?" asked the charming looking girl.
"He is right there" said Skanda pointing towards Skye. Since he was outside the group of men surrounding her, she went up to him and said "Thank you, we were very hungry and you helped us, I will always remember this kindness. My name is Sharon, and she is my good friend Iris."
Behind her Iris also walked up-to him and said thank you. Skye was absolutely mesmerized by Sharon's beauty and his heart started beating faster. He couldn't say any words for a few moments and finally with great difficulty just said " You're welcome" and then didn't say anything more.
Seeing the developing awkwardness, Skanda said " we have other things to attend to, let's meet again later sisters." and held Skye's hand to drag him out from there, but just at this moment another man arrogantly spoke " Hey man, the rest of us are also very hungry, give us some apples"
Skye looked at him, it was the same man in blazer who ignored him yesterday when he wanted to ask him some questions. He did not mind it yesterday but hearing his arrogant attitude now, Skye was having bad impression of him. He just said " Don't want to" and went away.
The man looked at Skye disdainfully and mockingly said so that the girls can hear "Who does he think he is? he is just showing off in front of the girls and not even helping others."
Taking his cue other men also mocked Skye but the girls did not respond to those comments and just looked at Skye's back for a moment and resumed what they were doing before all this happened. Sharon was again talking normally to the men like nothing happened but Iris still glanced in the direction Skye left.
"Bro, why did you not talk with the girl?" Skanda asked after they came far away from the girls.
"I did not know what happened, I got very anxious and could not speak " Skye replied feeling sad, Skanda just laughed loudly and amusingly looked at Skye.
A few minutes later after everyone was divided into groups and placed under a captain, they were asked to follow their captain and went into separate directions one by one. Skye later got to know that the castle is enormous and could still accommodate even more people than there were at present.
Skye was assigned to captain named Robert Stonewall. He looked like he was around 40 years old, tall with muscular body and had a square face with a dense and well-defined beard. He had a very deep voice and sounded very manly.
He took the chosen to a large open ground, some people who looked like palace workers were already present there with tables full of food arranged in front of them. Captain Stonewall told them to have their food and then assemble in front in the ground in an hour and dismissed the chosen.
The chosen madly ran to the tables, they were hungry since morning but were afraid to ask for food. Now, seeing so much food in front of them, they were just too happy and rushed to eat as much as they can. There was an assortment of various kinds of food, different types of animal meats, rice, bread, curry, sweets mostly everything you can think of. It was an eat all you can buffet and most people stuffed a lot of food in their stomachs.
Skye and the kid slowly went up to the tables, took a few meat pieces in his plate and stepped away to eat peacefully. All the dishes he ate were very delicious and they gave feeling of energy as soon he ate them. He felt a type of energy running through his body similar to what he felt yesterday when he used his skill outside the city.
