Chapter 4: Chapter 3 - The Beginning(?)
August Ambrose, a brilliant magister. He climbed through the ranks during the war between the Arthur-Archibald War. This was a war in which people died en masse. The reason behind the war was rather strange. The Kingdom of Arthur and the Country of Archibald were close knit. Both countries allowed each other's citizens into their nations without much hassle or proof. One merely needed a friend's recommendation to the other nation and they could visit for a vacation. Both had large rivers run through their nation and people form both sides treated each other well. That was the case until an apparent assassination towards a member of the royal family of Arthur had occured. The whole thing was rather strange as the assassination occurred very soon after the Crown Prince of Arthur, Henry Arthur George Edward(Author:Yes, that's how names were), had gone on a trip outside of the castle in a carriage bearing the royal coat of arms. The sun had reached its peak and as the carriage was close to town.
An incident occurred where men wearing cloaks ran out of town and attempted to assassinate the Crown Prince. It had, unfortunately, succeeded. With outsiders, traitors, rebels and spies from the Akkad Empire deciding to fan the flames of fury within the populace and the royal family. Thus, on the Year 386 of the Martin Calendar, the Kingdom of Arthur declared war upon the Country of Archibald. Both sides had similar environments and prosperity. Men were armed. The various lords of their territories were ordered by the royal family to join in the war. Some of the farther border territories were instead ordered to supply food and volunteers be they willing troops or doctors.
At the time, magic was very common. The most common form would be 0th circle magics.
This is due to the fact that 0th-circle magic didn't really require any channelling of mana from one's own circuit and could instead be used simply by imagining the effect of the magic and holding onto a magic stone from the magic stone veins. Most of those magics could be used for one's survival such as Torch. Or for convenience such as Warm Breeze and Splash. The former could be used to create fires for cooking or for warmth and light. The latter could be used to wash and dry oneself quickly. The strongest mage at the time was only 8th circle. The strongest mage that humanity itself had across it's entire history was a half-magister. The magister stage was rather intriguing as compared to other stages which required proving one's proficiency in magic and increasing the limit which they can work with by creating a magic circle upon their heart. The magister stage required one to open and walk through the door of Truth, a door that separated normal beings and Transcendant.
All Transcendants beings had to pass through the door of Truth. Whether be it using one's own flesh to force open the gates with brute strength or using one's own enlightened mind to push the door open. It was a process all Transcendants had to overcome. A half-magister is only created under the circumstances where a 9th circle mage attempted to pass through the door of Truth but failed at the last step which was walk through the door. They had proven their will but failed to prove their resolve. Make no mistake. One's will and resolve are entirely different. One's will merely refers to one's own decisions whereas one's own resolve refers to the strength to make those decisions happen. Strong enough will but insufficient resolve will cause one to fail to become a Transcendant.
August Ambrose. A bright minded 2nd son of a Marquis. He had chosen to learn about magic instead of politics and history unlike his 1st brother. He knew that his brother was far more suited towards scheming, plotting and politics than he was.
So he announced on his 6th birthday that he would give up on inheriting the land, people or status of his father and instead focus on studying the mysteries of magic. He took up interest in magic at the age of 5 due to having few friends to talk or play with. He still had his mother of course but she had her problems and chores to do as well. He had a singular brother and didn't get many chances to talk to him outside of dinner as he was considered a replacement in the case where his brother died. So in the Year 368 of the Martin Calendar, at the age of 5, he stumbled and read his first ever book on magic.
Time had passed after his dinner announcement and at the age of 8, he had managed to become a 1st-circle mage. His monstrosity and talent slowly began to show itself and at the age of 10, he showed his family at dinner that he had become a 2nd-circle mage. With this in mind. Marquis Ambrose decided to send him to the Royal Academy of Magic. A prestigious school for the magically gifted with a small percentage of genius commoners and a large percentage of nobles. The reason for most nobles being able to use magic was during the founding of the nation and the expansion of it's territory those who could use offensive magics were granted status, land and power. Those with magic circuits would pass them down through blood. Those genius commoners were considered future nobles as well, thus, they weren't targeted by most of the nobility.
Becoming a student at the academy required one to be at least a 2nd-circle mage. However, he was only sent to the academy at the age of 13 due to their age requirements and with the abilities of a 3rd-circle mage. His admission and entrance exam shocked the various teachers, senior mentors, deans and even the vice-principal had wanted him as their student. Luckily for our protagonist Arthur Ambrose, due to the large fuss about the monstrous genius, the Principal, a 7th-circle mage, had stepped in and snatched Arthur as his student.
Through his guidance, Arthur managed to create a 4th magic circle around his heart at the age of 15. At the age of 19, he managed to make his 5th magic circle around his heart and decided to volunteer for the war. As a 5th-circle mage, he was welcomed greatly as a strategic weapon and a strategist. Before he left for the war, he sent back letters for both his family and friends. Upon the end of the 388th Year of the Martin Calendar, he'd received his response from both family and friends wishing him to be safe and to take care of his hygiene. The Kingdom of Arthur had been winning on many of it's second fronts due to support from Arthur and the other mages yet it's main battlefield was constantly under back and forths. One day it would be nearly conquered by the Kingdom of Arthur and the next, the Country of Archibald would push them back to the impasse. At the age of 23, Arthur had managed to reach the 6th-circle while recovering from an ambush by enemy mages near the main battlefield. Yet, the cost of war for both nations was getting deeper and deeper.
Eventually, either side had to gain a crucial victory or they would both lose. So they both sent out a messenger declaring for a final showdown which didn't depend upon the lives of soldiers lost but rather a brawl between mages. Since mages were a strategic weapon for both sides, the nation which lost more mages would surrender to the winner. And so it began. With Arthur having defeated one of the 6th-circle mages of the Country of Archibald by cleverly hiding a Greater Fireball out of sight after casting Lesser Glacier and burning the opponent to ashes. Eventually both sides greatest mages had fought, with the Principal of the Magic Academy falling into a coma from a mana overload from casting a 8th-circle spell while still being a 7th-circle mage. The Country of Archibald's 7th-circle mage however was weak and thus struck to death by the Principal's Greater Chain Lightning spell. His corpse was still smoking yet still maintaining it's form after being struck by lightning eight whole times.
With the Kingdom winning, the Country of Archibald gave up many concessions yet surprisingly the Kingdom made no request for the Country of Archibald to become it's vassal or for it to become a puppet state by the Kingdom.
At the age of 28, Arthur had become a 7th-circle mage and decided to take over his mentor's position as the Principal of the Magic Academy. He had moved his family to a rather expensive mansion in the noble district while still being close enough to fly to at a moment's notice.The territory had been left for Arthur's brother so his father decided to retire and let Arthur's brother to take responsibility for the land and it's people while he and his wife moved into the mansion.
At the age of 35, he had managed to reach where the strongest mage that currently existed in the world had and became a 8th-circle mage. At the age of 42 however, his mother died and his father passed away soon after when Arthur became 44. The deaths of his parents devastated Arthur and the fact that he could do nothing about it prevented him from practicing magic for quite a while. It took him 5 years to recover form the loss. Five precious years which could've let him reach the 9th-circle standard. At the age of 57, he finally reached the 9th-circle. He had done his research, made deals with other nations for knowledge upon reaching the Transcendant stage and had even gone through the trouble of attempting to find the books of the sage Piccus, the human who became a half-magister. Upon researching and studying everything thoroughly. At the age of 80, a full 23 years since he became a 9th-circle mage. He attempted to pass the door of Truth. It took an arduous 2 years of fighting in his mind to push the doors open completely and 6 months for him to successfully recover enough resolve to pass through the doors. At the age of 82 and a half, Arthur Ambrose had finally became a full-blown Transcendant with the ability of magic, a true magister(Mage>Magister). He had everything at his fingertips now, power, wealth, status and even the secrets of magic. Yet he felt empty. He failed to find any hints of magic which could revive his parents except for undead magic but he knew well enough that turning them into undead would also corrupt their souls which would make it pointless. So he went mad on a search for even more knowledge until he found a strange time. The cover of said tome felt like nothing he'd ever felt before. It wasn't like it was made of normal leather or pelt or skin or hair. Instead it felt like it was moving, constantly. He could feel a pull and push of some strange force upon touching the cover. Through arduous study, he'd decipher the book using Argent era languages and came to the conclusion that it was a kind of time based spell. The theory behind the spell was that by sending a portion of one's soul by shattering and thus making it incomplete and thus unrecognisable by the river of time, he could theoretically regain his youth, family and emotions. Since an incomplete fragment of a shattered soul wasn't really considered a fragment of a complete soul, it would be able to send memories and experiences through said incomplete fragment. At the age of 90, Arthur attempted this and succeeded. And that brings us to the current storyline. Of the soon-to-be hero of the Kingdom of Arthur's tale and his future.
