Chapter 8: Preparing For Chad's Birthday[2]
At napsan, palawan.
Mrs beltran knocked on Rachel door. She opened it and saw her mom at the door.
"Mom, why are you still up?" she was surprised.
"I need to talk to you"
"About what?"
"Did Chad tell you what happened to him?"
"Yes, he did"
"So what happened to him?"
"Come inside first then I will tell you what happened" Mrs beltran entered the room and Rachel told her what happened.
"I have known Chad since he was a little boy, he never liked girls touching him. I understand why he did that"
Rachel smiled at her mom who later patted her head.
"Go to bed now, we have lots of work to do at the farm tomorrow"
"Okay mom"
She crawled into the bed and her mom tucked her in. She sat at the edge of the bed and watched her daughter sleep. After some minutes, she kissed her daughter's forehead and left the room.
Next morning at the farm.
Johanna walked to Rachel who was talking to the other farm workers. She whispered something into her ear. Rachel looked at her in the face and excused herself from them and left with Johanna.
She saw two people grabbing each other by their collars. She ran up to them and began to pull them away from each other. "Stop it, stop fighting" she yelled. The two men finally pulled away from each other.
"What is wrong with the both of you?" she asked.
"He started it" Mr banjo said pointing at Mr abio.
"No, you started it"
They began to yell at each other again. Rachel was already pissed off so she yelled at them again, "Will the two of you just shut up!" the two immediately kept quiet. "I don't want to know who started the fight. The both of you are grown ups already and you are behaving like children. What if your wives and children sees you fighting? Do you know your fight will also affect we the workers? Mrs Torres will get angry if she finds out that you guys were fighting and it will also affect your children and wife if not us" She yelled angrily. The two men finally came to their senses and thought of what Rachel said. They fell silent and lowered their heads not wanting to look into Rachel's eyes.
"What are waiting for? Apologize to each other now"
The two men looked at each other and said, "Am sorry"
"Hug each other" Rachel demanded.
They immediately hugged each other.
"Smile at each other"
"Do we need to smile at each other?" Mr abio asked
"Yes or I will report that the two of you were fighting"
"Don't say anything. We will hug each other" They immediately hugged each other.
"Very good. You guys should go back to work now or will you want to fight some more?" Rachel asked and the two men immediately shook their heads and left.
"Thank God I called you instead if not things would have gotten worse" Johanna let out a sigh.
"Let go back. Mom will probably be waiting for us" Johanna nodded her head and they both left.
At the Torres mansion.
Mrs Torres and Mina were eating on the dinning room when Chad came. He sat beside his mom. He took out a serving spoon to serve him self but Mina immediately stopped him.
"I cooked crispy pata, kalderata, Mechado and lechan all for you and remember you did not eat yesterday's night" she placed all the food on his plate at a time. He wanted to refuse but she has already placed the food on his plate.
"Chad, eat the food. She cooked it only for you" Mrs Torres smiled.
"Mhm" he nodded and began to eat the food.
"How is it" she asked smiling.
"Mhm" he nodded. "You should eat too"
"No, no, no. it's all for you" she immediately refused. He continued eating the food.
After some minutes, Mrs Torres stood up and headed towards the door.
"The both of you should take care of yourselves. I am going to work now"
"Yes aunt" Mina smiled and Chad replied with, "Take care mom"
The maids helped her with her bag and she left.
"Chad, do you want more?"
"No" he replied immediately.
"But..."
"I am full already" he stood up and walked up stairs.
"But he has not even eaten half of the food" she said in a low voice and her face expressed sadness. "Come and thrash this food" she shouted.
"But miss Mina you just cooked the food and..."
"I said go and thrash it. Will you want to eat our left overs?" she said angrily.
The maid shook her head and began to pack the food the food.
Mina loss her appetite because Chad did not finished eating the food she cooked for him.
At carpeDiem Torres.
"Am so proud of you Marie" she smiled.
"Thanks ma'am"
"My son's birthday is in three days time. I want you all to come to my house to celebrate"
"Okay ma'am"
She took her bag to leave then she remembered something, "Marie, come see me in my office"
"Okay ma'am"
Mrs Torres left the conference hall and the employees began to praise Marie for her hard work.
At the sugar cane farm.
Johanna and Rachel were packing sugar cane sticks.
"Rachel, did Chad tell you what happened to him yesterday?"
"Yes, he did"
"So what happened to him?"
"James bought a new car so he went to celebrate with him and his friends at the restaurant and while celebrating some girls came in and you know he doesn't like girls. Then a girl came...what's her name again...Erica, yes Erica is her name. She sat with Chad and started seducing him. He got angry and pushed her away. She fell and hit her head on the glass table in the room and that's what happened"
"Did he apologize to her?"
"You know how Chad is. He did not"
"What?" she was surprised.
"But I told him to apologize and he did" she smiled
"So is he going to take us home today?"
"No, I told him to stay at home and rest"
"What? You told him to stay at home?"
"Yes"
"Now I understand what true love is"
"I don't blame you if you don't understand. What about Josh? Have you guys talked already?"
"How many times do I have to tell you that I don't like Josh" she said angrily.
"Am sorry Johanna. I will never talk to you about Josh again, I promise" she promised. "Chad's birthday is in three days time and I don't know what to give him as his birthday gift. You know he is rich and he has everything"
"Yes I know, why don't you buy him a bracelet"
"What kind of bracelet?" she asked
"Why don't you buy him a blue ocean heart bracelet. He will love it"
"Really?" she smiled.
"Yes, but it is quite expensive. I don't think you can afford it" Rachel smile faded away when she heard what Johanna told her.
"I saved some money so I think I will be able to buy it"
"It is fifteen thousand pesos" she said and looked into Rachel's eyes.
"Will you help me make some money? I have only ten thousand with me"
"I can give you the remaining amount of money you want" she said and a took Rachel's hand.
"No way!" she pulled her hand from Johanna's. "I don't want your money. I will work for mine" she said and turned to leave but Johanna suddenly held her hand.
"I will help you"
"Really? thank you" she smiled and hugged her.
"So how are you going to get the money? You know we have only today and tomorrow"
"Don't worry, I have my way"
"What way? Don't tell me you are going to steal?"
"Are you crazy? I won't do that. I will get a job at the resturant today" she smiled
"A job? Resturant? Today?" she don't know what has gotten into her friend. How can she get a job at the resturant today?
"Yes, don't be surprised. We will go out tonight, okay" with that, she turned and left. Johanna still dumbfounded stood there not knowing what to say.
How will she get a job at the resturant this night?
At the Torres mansion.
Later at night, Mina was on a phone call.
"Chad's birthday is in the next three days and I want you to come, okay. Don't be late, okay and also come in your best gown in your closet, okay" with that the call ended and a smile appeared on her face.
