Chapter 70: Agnes the Herbalist

Leon had to catch his balance as old man Jenkins hadn't held too much when he pushed Leon out of the guildhall.

'Ugh, stuck running an errand…well I guess there ain't too much to do today.'

Deciding to just do it instead of running the potential risk of embarrassment from old man Jenkins, Leon decided to stroll towards the edge of the city.

Although Leon had lived his entire life in Verin, he hadn't ever been to the herbalist so he had to take twenty minutes to find the right place when he reached the outskirts.

Once he found the building he approached a small, neat building which was made of red oak wood, which wasn't expensive per se but showed that whoever built this didn't cut corners and didn't build the building shoddy.

Leon was quite impressed with the dainty building, as most places on the outskirts were usually pretty cheap and plain.

'Maybe this herbalist likes to live well, I wouldn't blame them'

Making sure he had the note on him, Leon gave three quick knocks on the door. At first, no sound could be heard from the building so Leon gave another three knocks, suddenly a voice could be heard from afar.

"Doors open!"

Having permission, Leono turned the handle and took a peek inside the building. The inside was quite tidy, with a bunch of tables and ceramic bowls everywhere. On every table, various plants were strewn about in a very precise matter and some were crushed into mush in the ceramic bowls.

The various plants gave the air in the building an earthy and pleasant smell, which Leon often enjoyed when he was in the forest. However despite everything here, Leon couldn't see the herbalist who had told him to come in, so he looked around until he realized that there was a back door that was ajar.

Leon assumed the herbalist was working in there, so he pushed the door open and was suddenly barraged by a variety of strong plant-based smells. With this vision blind for a second due to the transition of being inside a shadowy building to the light of the blinding sun, Leon's eyes finally adjusted to see the big greenhouse he was in.

A woman was about 25 feet away, tending to one of the hundreds of plants inside the place, from the door and saw Leon enter.

"Do you need me for something?"

The woman looked as old as old man Jenkins, but one could tell she was once quite beautiful from the stark and well-defined features on her face. Leon walked up to her and stuck out his hand with the note.

"Um, old man Jenkins told me to come to find you and give you this note."

The woman was quite used to being handed orders via messenger or notes, so she didn't think too much of it and took the note. After squinting at the note for a couple of seconds, she raised her eyebrows and spoke while she finished reading.

"Did you say old man Jenkins?"

Leon gave a nod before the old lady spoke again.

"Could you possibly be referring to Leeroy Jenkins?"

Hearing his full name being called out, Leon was quite curious to see how this old lady knew old man Jenkins.

"Do you know gramps misses..uh?"

Giving a little chuckle, the old lady put away the note as soon as she finished reading.

"Haha just call me Agnes, I knew that old fart when I was younger, but we stopped being in touch quite a while back."

Seeing as his job was done, Leon turned towards the door.

"I've done my job, good day Agnes."

Seeing him leave, Agnes turned towards Leon.

"Actually before you leave, can you help this weak old lady out with a favor?"

Hearing her request, Leon paused mid-walk to the door.

'Well, I guess I don't really have anything better going on, besides she seems to be actually weak, unlike gramps.'

"Ah, I am free so sure. What do you need help with?"

Agnes walked into the building to look for something.

"Just give me a second, I could've sworn it was somewhere here."

She rummaged through her bookshelf looking for something until she took out a piece of paper and walked back to Leon to give the paper to him.

"Ah, here it is, here takes this."

Leon took the piece of paper and saw a drawing of a flower that resembled a rainbow in terms of its colors and its scheme. The entire flower was very normal looking beside the abnormal colors and didn't have anything crazy like flames or lightning surrounding it.

Agnes put everything she rummaged through back onto the bookshelf and wiped off a bead of sweat from her brow.

"Whew, anyways please go fetch one of these flowers in the forest, it shouldn't be too hard to find one, but if you can't find one by sunrise just come back here. Anyways this old lady needs to go sit down, good luck youngin."

Walking out the door, Leon could see Agnes sit down in a rocking chair that was situated in the Greenhouse facing the sunshine and plants and decided he would try his best to find as many flowers as he could.

There were many forests near Verin, but Leon logically assumed that Agnes was talking about the forest that was near her building so he walked into the forest full of confidence and energy to search for the rainbow flower.

However, his confidence would slowly be sapped after three hours of searching through to forest to no avail. At this point, Leon had run through the entire forest and searched every nook and cranny.

He had seen blue, red, and orange flowers, but couldn't find one which was rainbow. As of now the sun was slowly going down but hadn't set, Leon, however, was hunch over with both hands on his knees as he was panting for air from running around for three hours straight.

'Who would've thought looking for a flower would be so tiring.'

Leon did a double-take but had to jog for some of the parts as he had already run there hours, however, he still found nothing and by this point, the sun had already touched the horizon and was about to be completely eaten by the earth.

Sighing Leon made his way back towards Agne's building.

'I hope she isn't too disappointed that I didn't find any'

When he arrived, he once again knocked on the door, but this time after a couple of minutes of knocking and waiting no one answered. Leon checked the door and realized that it was open so he slowly opened it while announcing he was coming in.

"I'm coming in!"

When he opened the door he found the entire place empty and put the paper back onto the bookshelf he saw Agnes take it from, there he saw on the table in front of the bookshelf was a note that read.

Went to say hi to Jenkins, if you are back come find me at the guildhall of The Chosen -Agnes
