Chapter 4: Just... hot
I woke up from the pain I feel on my back and the cold seeping on my skin. I looked around. What in the world? Why is it so dark outside? I looked at the clock hanging on the wall, it's already 6:30. We were supposed to get home by five o'clock.
"That cold-hearted jerk! Wait 'til I get back to you!" I picked up my bag and left the building in a hurry.
"'Go straight from the gate, turn right, then left, you'll see the Cravit Village, then right, then another right, and lastly, left. It's the one on the end, isolated from others.' Did I remember it right?" I recited the words they told me earlier. "Ugh! It wouldn't be so hard if I set off earlier. If only that bastard Blaze woke me up when he left! And he really didn't have even a bit of kindness that he still chose to get his shirt when it's the only thing that keeps me warm from that cold floor!"
I took my final turn to the left then head straight to my 'temporary' house, at least that's what they say it is.
"Where is it? Am I even in the right place?" I wish I had the power to lit up this whole village so I can see clearer. Lost in my thoughts, I tripped on a rock. "This stupid rock wants to fight m-"
"Poor rock. You're not going to get me convinced on bringing you back home just because you fell ill and all crazy in this small village." I know that voice better than anyone. I hugged him even before seeing his face. "Miss me already?" He said while he chortled.
"You wish." I break the hug. "What the hell are you doing here?" I asked with smile creeping on my face.
"Watch your language young lady. Being outside the palace doesn't make you less of a princess." I rolled my eyes at him. "And that habit of yours. Father would not be so glad if he would be able to witness that."
"That doesn't answer my questions." I looked around to see if there's anyone who can see us. I noticed that we were already at the end of the route, isolated house in front, must be my house. The forest all pitch-dark on the right.
"Okay. Okay. I was just curious of your first day at school. Tell me about it." He said while he led me to a bench near the forest. I shot him a knowing look.
"I don't think any crown prince would have so much free time in his hands, that he would waste time knowing someone's first day at something. You sure it's not because you're bothered?" We both sigh. "Don't worry about me. If this is what I need to do to not become more of a burden."
"You know you're not just someone. You're a princess, and my little sister on top of that. And you were never a burden." He gave me a comforting hug.
"To you I'm not. We are both certain that His Majesty does not think that way." I always break whenever I mention His Majesty, because I always wonder why I can't call him Father just like how my brother do.
He hugged me tighter. "That's not true." There's silence after that. "You know I mean it when I say I want to know about your first day at school."
I leaned towards the bench facing my brother's back. "Nothing special really. There's this one girl, named Charm, who talked to me and helped me earlier, but I haven't made a friend out of her yet. And this mind reading guy, called Siche, who disturbed my mind all day, but I think he's not so bad." He gave me a mocking look, his eyes showing malice and I just ignored it. "And this guy that my mentor asked to help me catch up with their lessons. He was supposed to teach me for two hours today, but guess what? He did not. He said the dean told him that I can already control elements, and that I need no teaching. But I thought it was my mentor who talked to him. Do you know who the dean of our school is?"
"You know it's my job to know almost all the people in our realm?" He stared out of nowhere.
"Then can you tell me the name of who lives there, that house nearest to mine?" I said while pointing to a house and squinting my eyes. He just flicked my forehead and I scrunched, holding the part he flicked in response.
"Is he cute?" He's really way too malicious for a prince.
"Who? My neighbour? Haven't seen him." He was about to flick me again but I ducked.
"The second guy."
"Blaze? Yeah? But nah. When I start to think of him as cute, he looks at me like I did him wrong thousand times. You know the way he looks is way too scary. But he's kinda hot. And he can make you feel hot too." He gave me a shocked look, his eyes wide. "No not that kind of hot. Like, you know, hell-like hot. It's hot because you feel walking on fire because he- he's-" I can't think of a word to describe it that doesn't cause misunderstanding. "It was like, you know, hot because it's scary and whatever. And I think the first guy I mentioned looks hotter."
"First day and you're already torn between two." He chuckled.
"Hey I'm not here for that. And I think neither of them is 'the one'" What is this guy thinking?
"You could never be too sure." Is he here as my cupid? I can't believe him.
"Whatever, but if you give me a list of men with thousand of names, I would be crossing theirs' first. And I would give Blaze the honor to be crossed out first than Siche. You know he's such a jerk."
"I wish I could listen to your stories everyday. But father just gave me today to visit you." I felt sad the moment he said those. Guess I had to get used to not being able to tell him about my day, everyday. That might be hard because I grew up that way, this guy had spoiled me, and I didn't know.
"You should keep going, it's getting late." We both stood up.
"I really should but I need to ask you one important question, it keeps bothering me since earlier." I suddenly become nervous. What's so important that bothered him?
"And what is that?" I asked.
"You sure it's not that kind of hot I was thinking?" I pushed him and he just laughed aloud.
We said our goodbyes and he left after seeing me enter the house. The first thing I did was to eat, then I wasted time staring at blank space rewinding all the things happened today then finally get to sleep.
