Chapter 3: True Excitement
Throughout the night and into early morning, Adam's mother would come in periodically to feed and change him. The whole experience felt odd to him since he was technically sixteen years old.
In the morning, his mother came to grab him and took him around the house that they lived in. It was a large house that stood near the center of a town. His parents seemed to be well off as there were plenty of maids and butlers roaming about the grounds. The last place they stopped was the library that was filled to the brim with books.
His mother placed him in a bassinet and sat next to him with a book in her hand. It had strange letters written on the cover.
"System, why can I understand what the people around me say, but I cannot read the language?" Adam asked.
"Response... The system is has scanned a book that was located in your parents room that contained phonetic descriptions of words in the native language of this area. Using deduction, the system was able to decifer the easier words to understand so that the host could hear what was being said." the system said.
"Is it possible to scan every book in the library?" Adam asked
"Calculating.... There are four thousand books present in the library. It will take thirty minutes to scan all the books and three weeks to compile and decifer the information. Would the host like to continue?" the system said.
"Proceed please." Adam said
It didn't take long for Adam to receive the notification that all the books had been scanned. He gave the system the order to prioritize the books that would help with language first. This would alow the system to assimilate the rest of the information and compile the data.
Time seemed to pass extremely slow during this time. He would occasionally use the system to scan the people around him so that he could learn the average strength of the rest of the inhabitants of this world. This would help give him a base value that his system to use to generate a standard to measure his own abilities with.
He had come to learn during this time that he had three older siblings as well. The oldest being seventeen, was named Mark. The next youngest was twelve and was name Seth. The next one was a girl named Cici and she was eight. He was the youngest since he was a newborn.
He hadn't met any of his siblings yet as the middle two were in school and only came home for vacation and the oldest had joined the military to elevate the status of his household. His parents were Marquis' and were trying to raise their rank to Duke.
The first siblings that he met were Seth and Cici since they were getting a holiday. This day also lined up with the day that the system finally finished compiling all the data from the library. It had only taken a week and a half since he had focused on the language of this world first then the rest of the data.
What he found was an amazing world of magic and monsters. This small bit of information was enough to blow Adam's mind. The rest of the information served only to excite Adam as it was descriptions of the magic that could be learned and the process that was required to gain access to it.
Adam had decided to wait until his siblings left again before he would try anything with his new found knowledge.
The last day that his siblings were home, they received a letter from Mark that said he had been promoted and that he had settled on a name for his newest sibling. It was customary for the eldest child to pick the names of his or her siblings in this world. He had settled on Adam, which was a relief to him, but the meaning of his name was a bit over the top.
His name meant that he would be a holy deliver that would bring peace to those in need and destruction to those that would oppose him. Just the thought of it gave Adam the chills.
The next morning, Seth and Cici left to return to school. This meant that it was finally time for Adam to develop his method.
A method is a technique that allows the user to absorb the energy of all the elements around them while also focusing the majority of that energy at their affinities.
Affinities were the element or elements that someone was uniquely attuned to. The basic elements were fire, water, air, and earth. The middle tier elements were combinations of two or three elements such as fire and earth making lava. The high tier elements were holy, dark, and spirit. There had only ever been recorded three high tier elements since there were only so many ways that all the elements could be combined at once.
"System, begin developing a method that suits my affinities." Adam said
