Chapter 1: the judge: chapter 1
Chapter 1:
On a cold autumn morning, the sun shines and passes through the small drops of freshly fallen raindrops.
In one of the most important streets of Washington, Albert, a young high school boy, was looking at all those buildings, so imposing and so incredible that it left anyone speechless.
Shortly after he receives a call on his cell phone and his mother tells him that the moving truck will soon arrive, and he has to move to go home, so Albert takes a last look at those skyscrapers and in the distance he sees a white dome, maybe it was the White House?.
Back home he starts unpacking, trying to be careful not to make too much noise as his sister is sleeping.
That's how when he finishes he lies down in the dining room and turns on the TV where they are broadcasting a cooking program, shortly after he starts arguing with his mother:
"Mom what are we eating for dinner?"
"Albert you know what we eat, you ask me every holy time, it almost seems that you do it on purpose" well in fact he does it on purpose, for they, Albert is one of those people who keep everything inside, who tries not to externalize his feelings to but no that is not extremely necessary. The conversation continues when his sister arrives who is a few years older than him.
"Albert still complaining?"
"I'm not complaining Susan, I was just letting Mom understand that eating only freeze-dried foods is not good for your health at all", Albert says as he stares at his mother with a defiant look.
Shortly after the news starts and says that in these periods there are several problems with the electricity and telephone networks and therefore there may be little power in the signal.
"Mom but are you sure you want to live here? We are simple people living a metropolis like this is not for us" said Susan, who in recent years was taking a specialist course to become a farmer.
"Actually you are that simple Susan me and mom are more than happy to be here there are a thousand reasons why a city like Washington is great to live in", said Albert with a defiant look able to freeze the veins, very tired, and it was clear that the conversation would end soon after, they were all very stressed.
While they ate, however, Clara (Susan and Albert's Mother) took up the conversation again and said:
"Susan you have your first job interview tomorrow, right? What company did you say it was at?"
"This is a pharmaceutical company, speaking with a friend of mine from Oregon I realized that I had to look for a fairly stable job if I wanted to finish my specialization and in the meantime help you in some way", Clara immediately said with a lightning glance "no you don't even have to dare to think about us, we'll do it, this job is great for me and Albert will soon have finished school and will be able to go to university ",
Albert interrupts the conversation by saying: "I'm becoming a university student, are we kidding? I don't even think about it, I want to find a job immediately as soon as I finish my studies".
Both women of the house looked at him as if he had just said a comic joke so funny that there is no way they could hold back the tears.
The following day was the first in the new school.
Albert was excited at home and was looking forward to meeting his new companions, but as soon as he left the house, I went back to being the usual Albert all depressed and silent.
Once at school, he follows the normal lesson times, first going to orientation, then to the first lessons and then to the gym, where the usual welcome challenge was held among the students. In fact, every first day in the "AMERICAN STATE SCHOOL FOR EXCELLENT MINDS", the day was ended with a challenge of intellect and strategy.
The boys had to form groups of 5 in which each one had a well-defined task. Each one had to choose a class among "magician, archer, knight, infantryman and strategist" since watching them were the best girls of each section all the boys were fighting over not having the role of strategist as it was the less prominent role.
Eventually, as expected, the role ended up with Albert who had the task of commanding the allied lines and defeating the other enemies.
"This was the first moment everyone saw his incredible power …".
The challenge consisted in hitting the enemies with imitations of real weapons, at the touch of one of the weapons with the special suit, the boy who wore it would instantly fall to the ground, thus losing the game and having to retire.
The challenge begins, and you immediately notice that Albert's training is different from those of the other classes.
In fact Albert had positioned the magician and the archer in front of the night and the infantryman, not understanding his companions, they asked him what was happening.
"Albert what the fuck is going on, we just decided we wanted to win, and you put me and John up front?!?!?!."
Said Reginald (Son of an important English aristocratic family sent to America to compete with the best boys in the world and get a place worthy of him in society).
John obviously said he didn't care that much, he would hit everyone and obviously become the strongest.
Just a few seconds after the fight begins, everyone rushes to the poor John and Reginald who, frightened, instinctively ask Albert what they should do, and Albert says "shoot!".
Then the two begin to shoot and realize that little by little they are defeating all the enemies that were present, all the infantry and knights who charged with their heads down were defeated immediately and no one understood how.
As soon as the vanguard was annihilated see all the few remaining wizards and archers who without a solid defence were the prey shots of John and Reginald who in the meantime had levelled up and had obtained many stat boosts.
Meanwhile, it was seen that the infantryman Mark and the knight Peter who had remained inside before the start of the battle, had arrived using the confusion and exploiting Peter's horse behind the enemy lines and putting pressure using the shields, cut every escape route to the poor remaining wizards and archers. The battle ended in a few moves and the winners immediately ran to Albert to thank him and hail him as the best freshman strategist.
After the award ceremony, the lessons ended and Albert returned home, greeting his sister and mother as soon as he returned, but shortly after there was a black out and the neighbourhood ended up without light.
With no more artificial lights Albert was finally able to see that grandiose panorama of skyscrapers and dirigibles flying over Washington. Finally, managing to admire the incredible white house in the distance that stood out above everything.
A few hours after the light returned, Albert was watching TV like the day before, always watching the same cooking show while chatting with his family.
Shortly after the TV turned off and everyone thought of a black out again, in fact Clara says "Tranquil guys I'll take a candle if we have to wait two hours again, we might as well have a gallant dinner".
But so it was not the TV immediately started to work, but it was all black, only an S could be seen in the screen. A film started that looked like it was shot years ago in very poor quality. In the centre of the film was a man with a little rabbit mask starting a speech "HELLO ALL, I AM GOD, THEY, BUT NOT YOUR GOD, I AM THE ONE WHO RULES ON EARTH NOT MEN".
"That is clearly a human and not a god!" Susan said frightened, "Albert changes the channel please ..." Clara said frightened. So Albert changed the channel, but even in that the same thing was transmitted, in every screen of every device in the world that message was transmitted, that day was subsequently re-coded as the beginning of the end ....
