Chapter 19: Ridiculous excuses sect
"Junior brother, I don't do this for people so make sure you listen carefully to this story," Luo Lijuan shifted in her seat as she continued, "A few months back, a man joined the sky sect. A suspiciously powerful man who rose in the ranks and was even proclaimed as a sect elder within those few months. Some liked him while others didn't. The ones who liked him naturally wanted to be more like him and the ones who didn't, wanted to dig up more dirt on him, but although both of these groups of people had different aims, their method of achieving information was the same. They followed him around silently."
Fu Jie suddenly found himself more drawn to this story. He suddenly felt as if what this woman was saying was much more reliable and more informative than what he had heard from Bai Ling or that peeing guard who still thinks Fu Jie is a tree spirit.
"They all found something and they were all shocked to find it. The man happened to be a demonic cultivator. The one who can control corpses."
Fu Jie suddenly understood what that guard had meant when he said 'Demonic practices of the worst kind'
"Isn't that what demonic cultivation is about? Controlling corpse?" Fu Jie asked cluelessly.
Luo Lijuan shook her head as she responded, "There are a lot of things that can be categorized under demonic cultivation. Dealing with Gu worms is also a form of demonic cultivation and making demon-attracting talisman is also a part of demonic cultivation. There are a lot more forms of it but the worst kind of demonic cultivation is considered to be the one where the cultivator controls corpses and uses them to increase his own power."
"Ah!~" Fu Jie chimed. He was gaining a lot of knowledge that he didn't even ask for but he wasn't complaining about any of it.
The more information he gets, the more he'd know about this world and the faster he'll be able to kill that crimson dragon and get out of here.
"When everyone found out he was a demonic cultivator, there was a lot of ruckus. Some wanted to follow his ways because of how easy it was to gain power through this medium, but most of the people were against him so they locked him up in jail." Luo Lijuan suddenly chuckled as she continued, "But those sky people are so damn useless! They couldn't even keep him in jail. He ran away with the help of one of their elders."
"That still doesn't explain why you people interfered and locked me away!" Fu Jie spoke up with a hint of hostility.
He couldn't help but feel wronged in all of this. None of it was his problem so why was he the one dealing with all of it?!
"When the two ran away, there was no way to catch them and since he was a powerful demonic cultivator, it wasn't simply a problem that only affected the sky sect. The rest of the sects were also greatly affected and they were afraid that this man may start a new sect and people would join him out of greed. If that were to happen, the balance the four great sects have struggled to maintain would shatter completely."
Fu Jie nodded his head as he listened to Luo Lijuan patiently narrating the whole story to him.
"They all decided to help sky sect but even after putting their strengths together, they still failed to catch the two fugitives so they thought up of another way to catch them."
"By arresting me and that old man?"
Luo Lijuan nodded her head as she continued, "If his beloved son was in trouble, the man who helped the demonic cultivator run away would certainly come back to save his son as well. The demon cultivator in question would also come back to save his friend who had helped him so much. So you two were supposed to be the baits but nobody wanted to take the risk of locking you away in the sky sect's prison. The other two had already run away from there so you two might run away as well." She looked at Fu Jie up and down as she continued, "You were already a part of that pathetic sect so you must also have had friends who'd be willing to break you out of jail."
"..."
Pathetic sect?
Fu Jie felt a bit offended on behalf of all the sky sect people who were suddenly dissed by this woman.
"We couldn't take the risk so it was decided that you'll be kept in the prison of the sect that catches you first and you just happened to fall into the hands of Maple passion pavilion."
"But I still broke out."
"Because Elder Dayu helped you."
"Eh? How do you know about that?"
It seemed that this woman knew a lot more than she should and it further strengthened Fu Jie's belief that she wasn't a simple character.
"There's hardly anything I don't know," She smirked proudly.
"..." Fu Jie didn't know how he was supposed to react to that so he simply kept quiet and let her speak on.
"And that's how our sect got involved with this mess." Her proud expression suddenly faltered as she continued speaking, "But of course, the phoenix ridge had to come and ruin it."
"Didn't you say that the four great sects needed to put on an act of unison? How come they attacked you so openly?"
"Because they didn't," She shook her head, "The people who attacked all belonged to the phoenix ridge but at the same time, they didn't."
"What does that mean?"
"It means they were all thrown out of the sect for various reasons and although they still go around wearing the same robes, they aren't considered as a part of the sect." She gritted her teeth, "They are truly shameless! They do this every time. They throw their own members out for dumb reasons so that they can attack us!"
"Dumb reasons?"
Luo Lijuan enthusiastically nodded her head as she responded, "They literally give the worst answers when asked why they threw these members out."
"What type of answers?"
"I remember hearing once where they threw a man out because he didn't wake up on time."
"Ah... That does sound like a weird excuse."
"It's not weird. This one was the most reasonable one!"
"..." Fu Jie suddenly wondered how ridiculous the other excuses had to be in order to make this one sound reasonable.
"There was this other time they threw out a woman because she was looking at an elder. She didn't even do anything but she was still accused of flirting with him! And this one time, they gave the excuse that a man wanted to drink water in the middle of morning classes. People were also thrown out because they asked for two bowls of rice when they were only allowed to eat one!"
The more Fu Jie listened, the more he felt like he didn't want to listen. These reasons were... Clearly an excuse and perhaps even calling them an excuse was wrong since excuses needed to be a bit more reasonable and creative. These phoenix ridge people really needed to sit down and attend a lecture on how to give better excuses.
"They even gave this one reason where they stated that the man didn't have enough hair on his head so he was thrown out."
"That's..."
"He was a monk!"
"Pfft-" Fu Jie couldn't help but choke as he heard this.
"Whenever they are questioned about why so many people from their sect attacked us, they would pull out a long list of names and the reason why they were all thrown out." Luo Lijuan took a deep breath in and tried to calm herself down as she continued, "People don't like attending such meetings because of how heated the discussions get but... Whenever this happened, somehow, everyone is present to listen and laugh their butts off."
"Well... I don't blame them."
"Each time such a conference is held, their answers get more and more ridiculous. They throw their disciples out even if all the disciple does is breath." Luo Lijuan shook her head in disbelief.
"And no one questions how stupid all the reasons are?"
She shook her head, "How can they when the person giving all these reasons has the most serious face ever? He would still maintain a serious face even if you laugh out in his face. No matter how much you shout or argue with him, he won't give you a reply that's longer than four words!"
"Four words?"
"Exactly four words! 'Don't question our decision'. That's what he says each and every single time with his honest eyes."
Fu Jie didn't know why but he suddenly wanted to attend such a conference and get firsthand experience in hearing this infamous 'four-word' reply.
"If you had joined their sect, I bet you would have been thrown out for being dumb."
